Here's the deal.

I have been working on my sr swap for some time now. I tried starting it a while ago and it fired up for the first time since I did the swap. When she started, it was real loud. I had a friend who is a Nissan mechanic there and he said it sounded like my rockers...and it probably isn't pumping the oil. I tried manually priming the backside of the turbo, no dice. I took the valve cover off to see if the oil was squirting out at all, no dice, not even dripping.

So my question is for any of you gurus out there, is my problem the oil pump? What part is the likely culprate? What are some checks I can do to know? Has anyone experienced my problem, and what was their solution?Any experience, insight, or reference to a solution is greatly appreciated.

Check your oil pan. Is it dented? Even the slightest dents (some can barely be noticed). The oil pickup sits about 3mm or so away from the bottom of the oil pan. That means, if you even look at the stock pan wrong, it will dent and kill the motor.

also, did you check to see if the oil light remained on? If you want to be accurate, you should hook up an oil pressure gauge and cross reference it with a service manual.

I read somewhere that you are supposed to disconnect the spark (ignitor or coilpacks) than turn it over a few times, before starting, to check for:1 proper oil pressure2 leaking oil from the lines

that is quite right. make sure you've got the motor cycling oil around before trying to fire it up for the first time.

i always do a cranking session with no spark, or fuel to get oil pressure built up, except for when i do something like pull the turbo. Then I just fire it up like normal and watch the oil light.

180, do you have a spare crank lying around? Don't need one yet, but just wondering.

Bart, I did have a perfect crank, but sold it to a fellow niconaut about a week ago for about 60 bucks. I'll keep an eye out for another one if you need one. For the oil pan, dunno make me an offer.

So I tried cranking it before my initial start, when there was no pressure I tried cranking with no spark again. I then tried manually priming the backside of the turbo. Nothing doing.I do not have oil pressure or leaking oil lines. I think the light stayed on when it was running, but I'm not sure (its been a few months)

I believe problem lies in the oil pan, the oil pump, or both.

I have manually pounded out my oil pan. When I took it off, and cleaned it up, I noticed that there was scuffing right under the collector/sender part (i don't know its name). The scuffing did however resemble the bottom of the sender very closely. This led me to pound out my oil pan.

A few questions, folks:

Has anybody had any trouble trying to use a fixed-up oil pan? (leaks, still no pressure??)

I have an S14 FSM. There's no real detail on the oil pump in it, does anybody know what internal part might be causing my problem?

I am interested in your parts 180fan. I just gotta get a handle on what it is that I need before I buy anything.

maybe its the pickup thats got a bend in it and not allowing oil to flow?did you take a look at that when you had the pan off??

I still have my oil pan off. Do you mean the piping on the pickup? It sure could be. I will check it out tonight.

Has anybody ran into this particular problem before, or heard of the best way to fix it?????

In that case that it is, will replacing the oil pump solve the problem???Or can I get away with fixing just that part?

Also, is it ok to fix up my oil pan myself?? Or do the masses recommend to purchase one?

The oil pickup, if it's bent, you should find another one to use. The pan, you can hammer out and it'd be fine as long as you've hammered out enough.
