hey im trying to help out my friend. he just put an SR in his s13 fastback. here's his description of the problem....

Quote »well it started up once we got the right ecu ( a borrowed one from MAS, but when i brought the new one down plugged it in and tried to start it, it just cranked and cranked. then i tried the one MAS had and it didnt work either.) the thing is, i mean i dont understand why its not firing right up. i think it might be the timing but i need some help to reset it. not knowledge wise just manpower wise. i dont think its my wiring harness itself the motors are tested and run b4 sending them. if any wiring it probably is the ignition choip wiring ~12 wires. i just need some help gettin down there and trouble shooting.[/quote]does this sound like an ignitor chip problem? does anyone have any suggestions?

if it's just cranking and cranking it could be.

is the fuel pump kicking on? And you checked all the fuses?

Did you get any spark? Pull an ignition coil (integrated into spark plug wire) and put a known good spark plug on it. Ground the spark plug and crank, see if you get any spark at all. Usually when an IC chip goes bad, it goes bad catastrophically, meaning, no spark in all 4 coils.

What is MAS you're talking about by the way?

i dont think its the ignition chip. if it was good 2 weeks ago when we go it to start up, i dont think it went bad just sitting in the car. heres the story. ok i get the motor in and all wiring done and all i does is crank crank crank but i had fuel and spark. so, i figure out i had an SR20DE ecu not DET. so i go to MAS (millenniu autosports) and they happen to have a #62 ecu. so i try plugging this ecu in and the car starts up 1st try. it has a sloppy idle and no throttle response runs forabout 2 mins and then dies out. we start it again and same thing runs for a bit with no throttle response then dies. sonw that i know i need an ECU #62 and not 60i call up the plae i got my motor from and they send me the new ECU. so after i get my own #62 ecu in the mail i go down to check out my car. i plug in my ecu and the car just keeps cranking. it wont catch....hm..WTF so I go in the shop an ask for the othe #62 ec i had used a week or two that worked. I plug that ecu in and same thing just cranks. i replace sparkplugs and see if that helps anything. it cranks alot stronger but still wont catch like i did 2 week prior. i check all hose clamps and vacc lines and plug all and tighten all. try again and still turns over but wont start. im wondering if maybe this is all being caused by the CAS? and i dont think my wiring is farked up since it started once before. ideas? sorry for long post

I am currently having the same problem as you. My car will just crank and crank all day long. I get spark and fuel goes into the rail (dont know if injectors are firing yet). I also think it is my cas, because my cas is banged up and the connector on it is broken (ghetto fix).

Cas could be the culprit, did anyone touch/remove it? Other things...too much gas sprayed into the chamber, then trying to start it by moving the CAS around will cause it to not start. A low battery voltage, less than 12.2ish is not so hot. Did you try jumpstarting?

My battery can start other cars, so its not that. Right now I am about to go outside and put in new plugs and take out the cas to check if its right. I mean, without the cas the plugs and injectors wouldn't fire right? Mine are firing, just no start "crank crank crank crank".

It sounds like there is no fuel to me... Are you sure you have the fuels lines on correctly? The feed line goes on the side opposite the FPR. The return line goes on the otherside. Is the pump on? The MAS has nothing to do with it starting . It WILL start without a MAS signal, it will idle VERY poorly and will die if you rev it.

Whoa, hold your horses. Can you repeat in detail what you are talking about with the fuel? My fuel line that comes from the fuel filter goes to the FPR, and the other goes to the other end of the fuel rail. Right or wrong?

You probably have you fuel lines backwards... The feedline, the one from the filter goes on the line that comes through the intake manifold. The fuel return line goes on the line near the FPR.. Here is a pic... Just D/L it...

Ahh yes, I just found out for myself they were backwards. It started right up, rather rough and low idle. I'll mess with it tomorrow.
