A friend and I just swapped a SR into his car about a week ago, and it doesn't want to boost. We can hear the turbo spooling but when the car is floored it goes nowhere. It has boosted once but we think it had to do with the wastegate vacuum line falling off. All of the piping is on there nice and tight as well.

Sounds like your timing is off

The motor supposedly ran fine before being taken out of the car it was previously in.

It was having an overheating problem and we thought we fixed it today...went for a test drive and still no boost, got on it a couple times, then the last time he floored it the temp shot up to near hot? I'm really confused now.

Have you checked the compression on the engine? Double check the timing? Boost leak?

Gonna check the compression on it tomorrow.

The timing should be right, I don't know how it could have gotten out of whack but I guess I'll figure out how to make sure...

The only place there could be a boost leak is if the BOV is shot. Which is what I am narrowing it down to. If the compression checks out, then it HAS to be the BOV. But that doesn't explain the overheating...maybe and air bubble from putting coolant in?

Don't ever assume that something is set right unless you did it yourself. Just because it supposedly ran fine before it was pulled, doesn't mean that the head gasket wasn't blown and everything else beaten to hell before it was pulled and sold (I guess it's just the pessimist in me).

Very good point. Trying to stay optimistic, although a head gasket isn't that hard to change. I guess tomorrow I will check the timing, and bleed the coolant system and see what happens. Anything else I should check for?

make sure that wastegate is shut, and actuator linkage is on the wastegate, not stuck in open position..

I've had this problem before and my intercooler pipes were loose and had a small vaccum leak.

Ducky thinks your timing is off too. Should be set to 15*

I had mine set to 0* and it did the same thing (you could hear it spooling but the car didn't get up and go).

I think it was due to a faulty BOV. We wrapped it in duct tape and it boosted. haha Ordered a real HKS this time, so we are gonna see if that does the trick.

Oh and the compression was between 145-155 on all four.
