i was just wondering if u need a piggy back or a chipped/socketed ecu to run a sr20 maf on the ca? i didnt think you had to but not sure. the reason i am asking because i beleive its my maf when i get to high rpms i start popping, but i do not beleive i am maxing it out though. my friend has the same problem on his tsi and it is because his maf is not calorbrated right yet on his dsm.. anyone know?

If you are using an SR20det maf, then yes, you need to get your ecu retuned.

I don't understand why you would.

SOHC maf is a replacement for the SR mafSOHC maf is a replacement for the CA mafTherefore the SR maf should be a replacement for the CA maf.

Both the sr and sohc mafs are usable on the ca without a retune but neither are a direct replacement for a ca maf. They both have a slightly larger i.d., my car runs a little on the lean side with an sohc maf, but not enough to throw the mixture ration way out of spec. The cool thing about having an sohc maf on my car is that with it, I can run open bov with any stalling/stumbling at all. Which makes sense if you think about it.

ok so you guys dont think i have to... but still not sure what my problem is though... i htink my timming may be a little retarted, sorta sounds like it is but someone painted over all my timing marks so i cant use a gun, and really dont feel like taking off the belt and everything. so im just wondering if timing could cause this problem under 9 psi and above 4500 rpms??

Hey Damesta, why would running a sohc MAFS allow you to run an atmo BOV? Because it runs slightly lean?

Thats the only thing I could figure out, it makes the car run slightly lean all the time but not enough to throw the mixture ratio in mode 1 and 2 on the ecu off. As far as I can tell that little bit of extra air is enough to keep it from stalling. I haven't had any problems at all with it since I started using an sohc maf. Anyone else had an expirience like this with the sohc maf?

im not sure if its the sohc cam or not, but u can run one of the ka mafs as a blow thru system so u dont lose the air u measure
