I'm having difficulties since swapping some pieces..found a boost leak..now at the point where I'm.trying to figure out if my maf is bad...when I unplug the maf there's no change in idle or anything ..what would this mean?

when it's plugged in, how high can you rev it?

4000 and its stumbling all the way to 4..then it clears out..hits 7800 and acts like it hits a wall and stumbles back down..acts the exact same with it plugged in or unplugged

Sounds like the MAF wiring is messed up.

Sounds like a bad MAF to me.. It should definitely act different if the MAF is not plugged in.

Try cleaning it.

Do you know any other SR guys local to you? Would one of them consider stopping over, swapping MAF's and then testing it on your car?

Did this car ever work correctly? The reason I'm saying bad wiring, is because of the fact you can get past 4k rpms. Without the maf plugged in, you should be stuck there.

Yea it has for well over a yea..had a small fuel fire..burned up the ignitor wiring..fixed that and.have had.nothing but.problems.since..also changed manifolds so.now I'm.wondering if my new manifold has a bad leak..for the fact I'm also only pulling 12 pounds.of.vacuum

well, that would have been helpful to know ahead of time.

It's pretty safe to say that if you had a fire that burned your wiring, and the engine hasn't run well since.. then you didn't properly repair your wiring.

Start from scratch and replace all your wiring that was in the area of the fire. After that, then test it out and see how it's running.

then you can start worrying about your manifold later.

MAF wiring needs to be done with shielded wiring...

It seems like you're just poking at this instead of actually examining each thing. Start with the wiring, and then check the manifold for leaks. Eikon is on point with his post.

Problem.is one.pulled the whole harness and ripped.all.the loom.off and.soldered new wire in.for.the parts that were burnt and then reinstated.for the fact it didst.start.

I think you're expecting 1 thing to fix this when you have multiple issues. Fix your wiring. The fact that it hangs at 4k for a little while definitely sounds like the wiring is trying to throw it in limp mode. (If the wiring isn't shielded as mentioned before, it'll get interference.) The manifold could also, very well, be leaking.

Make a video. Post it on youtube, and link it here. Do it from in car, so we can watch the Tach and such. Start with an idle, then at half throttle.

Vacuum/boost leaks will be easy to check for, so go ahead and check for those. The rich mixture (indicated by your exhaust) says it's not getting as much air as the MAF is reading.

Just giving a heads up..it was the.aftermarket manifold ..had bad casting that I apparently didnt see..and surface was all the way true..guess I'm getting new gaskets.for the stock manifold and putting it back.on
