okso i have a det swap in my 240and it made some real descent numbers

but a couple times this past monthright after start up ill get a big cloud of white smoke for a few seconds

smells like maple syrup to me and ive always associated that with burnt coolant

well the car sat for about 2 weeks because my brake booster crapped out on mewell i went to move the car yesterday and i smoked out 3 city blocks(and i mean thick, and blinding for both lanes) before i ducked down an ally to try and figure out wha the hell was wrong i let it run for about4 minutes while i poked around and then took it home smoking badly the whole time

well i called a budy of mine to see if i could use his garage

and about an hour after i parked it i started her back up for the mile or so drive to the garage and hardly a hint of smoke... i even had my girl follow me and she didnt see ****

so my questions arehas anyone ever experienced something like this?

where could coolant be building up ?

is there anything else it could be?

please let me know what you guys think and thanx

mike

also my coolant doesnt seem to have changed at all???

check your oil. synthetic oil is know to burn white sometimes. since i've never burned synth i can't tell you what it smells like. if you were leaking coolant into the cylinder, your oil would show it as well by looking milky.

Possible that you have a blown head gasket, or a cracked water passage in the block. Either way you would notice your water (coolant) level dropping and/or the oil going milky under the filler cap. Any workshop should be able to pressurise your cooling system to see if it has any leaks. If that gives no result try a compression test. You could try your question at .Most members have Jap imports with the SR20DET,or have done the conversion, heaps of knowledge for a small club :)
