hi, i am going to purchase a sr20det soon and i wanted to see what you people think. should i install it myself with help with friends. or have a shop do it? the thing is i have no experience with swap before soo it is hard to decide. i know installing it is easy but i heard wiring is a pain in the butt. soo should i get a shop to do it? or is it pretty easy but just time consuming? on average how long should a shop take to do the install. im prolly gonna go to phase2motortrend sence i live in cailfornia.

thanks for reading laterz nico.

I highly commend phase 2. Great bunch of guys and more than willing to bend over backwards to get you your stuff. They did my swap and even with problems with stuff being on backorder they still got my car back to me in 2 weeks(normal is 1 week but I kept the ABS and HICAS systems). I would say try it yourself and just have them do the wiring harness. Are you swapping from an auto to manual? If you are gonna have phase 2 do it talk to wayne soon cause they're pretty well booked up most of the time.

well i get a 89 240 it's a fatback, no auto to manual it is already a 5-speed . i got a guy that says he will install it for me but i have to do the wiring myself. when it is just installed without wiring. will i be able to drive it to a shop or should i get it towed. or in another words will it even start without the wiring completed? thanks

it's always good to try to swap the motor yourself for experience purposes, but having some knowledge car is a must before even attempting the swap.

and here's the reason why a shop is recommended if the following description doesn't fit you.

they have a high level of mechanical expertise. this means, they know the purpose of each wire and know how each individual thing work on the motor. so this mean they don't plug something up because someone told them to do it. and of course should you they run into a problem, they can fix it. last but not least, a shop that specialize in sr20 is a must, because they will make sure the car will run perfect before it is sent out the shop back to you.

personally i would do it yourself, take out your KA and thats some experience before doing the SR and then with the help from Heavy Throttles swap guide you should do fine. They ahve all the info you should need, and if worst comes to worst, have it towed to a shop and wiring done by a professional.

i plan on doing my swap by myself or with fellow NICOers from my area
