hi guys, i just traded my ka24de out of my mustang for a disassembled s14 sr20. now I'm from the toyota world and i own a 1jz mk3 supra. I'm just want to know common issues or what to look for or just general info on these engines. especially if i assemble my self or take it to a machine shop because supposedly it needs bearings. thanks!!

You had a KA24DE in your mustang? That's pretty rad.

Check out this forum. It's specifically for SR20's. You posted this thread in 240sx gen. discussion.

Haha, I clicked the link in your signature and saw that I actually posted in that thread! I wasn't too kind, but all the power to you for being different - I'm a little more grown up now. I think it's cool that you have the dedication to even attempt something like that!

But yeah, there's some good info in that SR forum. It's not so active anymore, but if you search, there is LOADS of info around here.

As far as my experience with SR's (I had one in my S13.5) they are pretty damn reliable and can handle abuse if they're properly maintained and set up.

-Use the clutch fan (it's better than e-fans)
-Don't over-rev it
-It likes 15w 50 oil

I had an s13 redtop, but honestly, they are pretty solid motors and can take a beating. Just do your usual maintenance. It won't put out big numbers as easily as a JZ, but with a few parts, you can get an easy 300whp with just bolt ons and a slightly bigger than stock turbo.

ask what car the sr was in before, also check the lower oil pan if it has any significant visible damage. Check turbo shaft play, check the trans mission, and front of the engine timing cover for any leaks
