So, finally I got my engine in. Afterdark did it.

I am breaking it in and finding that it idles just a little rough, I was told to run some injector cleaner through it and I am doing that right now.

My question is really a two parter

1 what is the stock idle supposed to be on a redtop?

2 should the injector cleaner not smooth out the idle what else should I try before being really concerned?

Thanks in advance

idle is around 800-850rpm. I've got mine a little higher :)

If the cleaning dosn't do it check for a vacume leak, check the IAA, TPS, and Timing, and plugs. Just start troubleshooting like you would a KA or any other motor. Useually it takes some messing around to get them to run right, it's totally normal. Also it might just take it a few hundred miles to 'wake back up' after not running for a few years.

Sorry to drag this back from page 2. I have not been able to get online to check back.

Thanks for the reply. My Idle is varying between about 550 to 700 right now. I have a feeling that timing should solve that but, I am a bit worried though because as of now I have 522 miles on it and it has an intermittant misfire. I was thinking it was the sparkplugs. They, however look ok. It is to the point where sometimes, not allways, the car dies when I pull up to a stop light. The RPMs dip far too low for the idle to recover. Other than that the car seems to run fine. If I can figure out this crappy idle I will be set.

Oh, I should also ask how to raise the idle the easiest way.

edit, nevermind I am slow. I got my idle up to about 800rpm wich is good enough for me. Still a little missfire now and then but one thing at a time I guess.
