Hello everyone,

I have an SR in a 1990 240.

Problem:

If I drive like a grandma and shift slow thru the gears it is fine. But Under moderate to heavy throttle my car hesitates, bogs backfiresin the down pipe. Around 2500-3500 rpm.

To start trouble shooting, I changed my sparkplugs to ngk 7s wasrunning 5s for a short while.

I checked the intake pipes I noticed my HKS filter nut fell out andthe filter was slightly open. I got a screw tightened it up.

I have tried to reset my ecu to see if it was sending a bad readingfor air mixture due to the air intake being loose.

I then checked the ecu for codes and it came up with 34 knock sensor.

Do I need to replace the knock sensor?

Only thing I can think of is the loose intake filter caused thetiming to be advanced and is throwing the knock sensor.

Also is it safe to drive my car short distances as long as I dont step on it and make it bg?

I was thinking of checking the timing next. But I thought yell mighthave some ideas first..

Thanks in advance, and if anyone in the orange county area wants tohookup and talk cars hit me up,

Aim: envsn8thanks Eric

Check your airflow operation too. Clear the knock code and see if it comes back on. If it does you need to replace it and the small sub harness attached to it.

hard to tell as I am not looking at your car I dont really know what its doing. You should definitly check your timing.

Acouple other things to look at when it boggs out at higher rpm would be fuel filter,is it restricting fuel flow? If you havent changed it in a long time you should do that. Air filter is it clogged up causeing a restriction in air flow. Be sure to do the voltage checks on your airflow meter. You may also have a restriction in your exhaust. That would be checked with a vaccum gauge to the manifold. under accel it should not have vaccum if the vaccum approaches that of what it is at idle you have a restriction.
