I'm going to be building a shell 240sx and dropping an SR20 into it. What I want to know is when I go buy my Redtop what should I be looking for? Also since I'm going to be using this thing as a road/drag/auto-x car I want to know what kind of drag times I'm goign to be getting in the 1/4 and how many Horsies I'm going to need to get into the 12's and how i'd achieve that.

Can't really tell squat just by looking at the motor. You're gonna need a compression test and leakdown test done on it. Then make sure you have a good warranty on that motorset/front clip. That's about it for it.

And as for horsies and 1/4 mile times we recently just had a thread asking about 1/4 mile times on this page somewhere so you can basically compare it there. I'm lazy :pface

Sricnay first off you need 3 months of reading up. secondly welcom and third search. all your answers are here and you just need to read to find them. PS a 12 second car will not make for much of a daily driver, it will require lots of maintance. and if you plan to auto-x/roadrace/dragrace then you may want to get 3 cars cause it will be easier. Ps: HP will not tell you how fast your car is. only a good driver can run 12 in a 300hp car but a fool in a 400hp car can run 15's

thanks for all the help. I had a MR2 before but I kind of got into an accident. It was totalled and the parents won't let me get another 2 so I'm going to look into getting a 240sx. I've installed engines before on other cars. But I'm just looking for an allaround car. My goals are getting between 230-250rwhp so that's like 300ish to the flywheel, right?

I'm just wondering about the 1/4 mile horsies because I've heard all sorts of numbers and I'm all confused. With the MR2 I needed about 280rwhp to get into the high 12's but I know the 240 has a different layout. So I'm just looking for a little help.

k I'll help ya out.

Installing the engine is easy, the wiring can be tricky. Get a good company to do that, and it should be a piece of cake. Do all the mods yourself, or someone you trust highly to do them.

-Getting 230~250 RWHP isn't a hard goal, some basica mods I'd suggest are a front mount, or even a side mount (cause you won't need a huge turbo) to handle higher boost, an upgraded turbo (cause the stock T-25 will be pretty stressed trying to get to boost levels like that) You could prolly pick one up pretty cheap, I would suggest the FP "Big" T28. My friend has it along with some other mods and he is making around 275 RWHP and 255 ft. lbs of torque. So so far you will need: -upgraded intercooler, in this case a side mount will prolly be better, less area to pressureize -upgraded turbo (you could prolly get to 250 RWHP on stock turbo, but it won't last you long) -You should be ok on stock injectors, but you'll be running pretty close to max feed. -Exhuast to free up horsepower there. I'd get a turboback if you can -boost controller is a must -gauges are a must -aftermarket clutch I highly suggest -flywheel is up to you, I like mine though And thats pretty much it. 250~275 if you can drive well should prolly get you in the mid to low 13s with traction. It'd be a decent daily driver too. Also if your goign to be doing Auto-X I would suggest reworking the suspension. Hope this helps Chris

Thanks a bunch. I assumed an upgraded intercooler would be needed. I wonder if a CT-26 turbo or CT20b would fit on there =D Hmm... would a Supra, 300zx, or Skyline intercooler work? I planned on getting/stealing my friend's 300zx feed lines as he is upgrading his so I wouldn't mind throwing them on mine.

You can really use any intercool as long as it will fit in your bumper. I suggest using a smaller one so that you have less area to charge which would equal quicker boost. As you may know the amount of lag you have is based on two things: 1)How quickly the turbo can spool 2)How much area the turbo has to pressurize

With a smaller turbo and intercooler, you will see almost no lag, and that would be good for an Auto-X course. A skyline intercooler might be a little big for your use, and I'm not sure about a supra intercooler cause I don't know those dimensions. Chris
