So we all know about using the SR20DET flywheel/clutch for a broader selection of parts.

Most of use the SR20 Fidanza aluminum flywheel.

Now, in the Driftopia How-Tothey talk about adding washers to compensate for the flywheel thickness difference between the stock CA flywheel and the SR flywheels so the stock flywheel bolts can be reused.

Some people have had experiences with the starter grinding on the flywheel ring gear and not meshing smoothly. I believe this has to do with improper spacing of the flywheel and the differences between the two. The SR's overall diameter is larger than the CA's which is also contributing. So I made some measurements and calculated a rough shim thickness to space the new Fidanza flywheel out to the stock CA flywheel offset. This should help with the engagement for the starter since the Fidanza flywheel ring gear would be set at the same offset as the stock CA flywheel.

.100" is close to 1/8"1/8" = .122"

note: the Fidanza measurements were taken from their "9.5lb" flywheel.

I put mine on with washers between the bolt head and face of the flywheel. Like how you would normally use a washer. Starter is hoodless gear reduction unit found on some S12s. No grinding of the teeth or any other problems. Didn't have to grind on the inside of the bellhousing either btw.

The use of the gear reduction starter eliminates all problems. I don't like the washer idea at all. Unless you weigh all of them and make sure they are all the EXACT same weight AND THICKNESS, you're begging for trouble.

I'll stick with my JUN and Tomei billet steel flywheels for the CA.
