Hi, I have a 1986 d21 swb that had a z18 and column shift 5 speed , I blew the head on that and swapped in a 1997 s15 sr20de and gear box. Not the easiest swap I've done , but ended up with a useful truck with a good turn of speed . Surprises the hell out of the mini guys when they can't get away.
The engine position ends up being a compromise, you can get it to sit at the sr angle altho a little high in the front , needs to clear the drag link. I reckon a notch in the sump would be worthwhile to get it down another 15mm or so , but it runs fine as it is. If anything it messes with oil levels in the gearbox, overfilling a bit helps this. Has no ill effects on motor so far ( I have driven it hard, no worries).
Be prepared to cut and weld the chassis mounts for the engine .I used the sr engine mounts and rubbers. Gearbox xmember comes as far forward as you can and up 30mm in the centre. Cut a hole in the floor for lever. ( I notched the bench seat as well, gotta have 3 seats!) I am using the sr lever in backwards and bent a bit, works a treat. Shorten the driveshaft.
As for the little stuff ..... speedo- use the d21 cable and reroute thru other ( 4wd i think) speedo hole to get cable on right side. I shortened it 50mm to fit nice. A VG30 or early skyline gear drive into where the sensor sits and your done.
Some plastic adaptors for the different heater hose sizes, throttle cable lines up, fuel lines are easy to line up.
I used the sr headers bent and cut to suit and built a 65mm exhaust , with two large mufflers its pretty quiet with good torque and power.
Running standard ecu at this point on a cut down loom. No Problems.
Custom built intake....etc etc etc
A good swap if your keen and a really good intro to f..ken around with cars and hot rodding cheap cars. It weighs the same as a s15 handles and rides 10 time s worse (Part of the fun) but goes hard and makes a good noise. There are also two driveshaft loops as per New Zealand certification rules...
Hope this helps
