Im building a sr20det redtop. I just want to know which alternator I can and should use. My buddy told me that I can use a j30 alternator and it would bolt right up with a washer. If I can use the ka alternator that would save me money. Someone please help me.

You can use the KA alternator, but you'll need to swap the SR pulley onto it. There was a thread a while back explaining what belt you needed if you wanted to run the KA pulley, but you'll have to do some searching if you want to go that route

You can put the KA alternator on, you just need to drill out the threads on the alternator where the nut goes through to lock the tension in place. Not sure about the belt, i remember a friend of mine just slapped it on? :/

KA pulley has less ribs for the belt.. You'd have to run a belt with less ribs on it to run a KA alternator with it's own pulley still on it.
