1996 240sxse. 142k miles, Auto.

Engine is tired i fear, so i am concerned about replacing it with a black top sr20.

A few questions for those that have the experience:

How hard on a scale of 1-10 is this conversion from a KA to an SR? Can i use the same radiator? Will i need to buy a new body kid to accomodate the intercooler?

Is the Auto to 5 Speed Conversion difficult? I know where the instructions are on 240sx.org, doesnt seem too tough.

I've read that I do not need to change the rearend. Is this correct?

In each of you opinions, would it be in my best interest to put the 300z LSD and Brakes on her?

Once the conversion is done, will the car still pass emissions? They now just plug the car into the computer here in Utah, they no longer dyno em.

All of your opinions / feed back is much much appreciated!

difficulty of install 1, trouble shooting...depends on your issue.wiring for s14's get done by a shop and save yourself alot of headaches.

at->mt is not hard. lots of info in the general and technical boards for 240s.

you can use the stock radiator but you'll need a pipe, and two 90 degree bend hoses and you'll lose your radiator shroud.

you do not need to change the rear end. you'll just need a driveshaft for the at->mt conversion.

you can put 300zx brakes but you may need new wheels to clear them. depends on how hard and how frequently you brake hard to justify the z brakes.

your car will not pass emissions with the sr. the computer plug in part will not see the proper engine that your car is supposed to come with. you'll be screwed then.

1996 and later OBD2 emission testing MATCHES the engine ecu data stream with the info stored in emission facility computer. TILT!
