Hi, I have a '90 240 with a redtop that just got finished. The motor didn't come with an ECU so I had to order one, but figured I might as well just order one that has been re-mapped. It seems to be using A LOT of gas. Half a tank yesterday and only 140km... My spark gap is set to .045. Could it be the ECU that is causing bad gas mileage? Or maybe the gap? I'm not looking for tons of power right now, so would I maybe be able to get better gas mileage using a stock SR ECU?

Thanks!

why did you get remapped anyways? did you change injectors/bigger turbo/etc..? its mostlikely dumping more fuel, unless some other sensors are messed up (O2,ect,maf).045 is mostly stock gap for N/A cars. gap it to .030

I didn't get it re-mapped, I just had ordered one that had been done because I figured it would be better, but didn't think much of it. I tried to decrease the gap but it started to misfire, it seemed opening it up a bit stopped that.

With the gap at .040 it would misfire a little, and when you would let off the accelerator, it would drop down and almost stall then idle.

Gapping it to .035 made it misfire worse and letting go of the accelerator made it stall.

I now gapped it to .045 and it doesn't misfire at all, but when I come to a light it will idle good for about 15 seconds, then start to bog down and do some funny things.

Do you know how I can fix this?

I gap my s14 sr20det to .28. Thats what most sr owners use, are you using the right temp plugs? BKR7e?
