Oof. Time for a new head, too.

What happened to cause the piston to destruct?

I think it's just baked on oil crust, it was just the #1 cylinder.

Most likely a prolonged lean condition/bad waste gate, I purchased the car in this condition...it ran, but not very good. It didn't even have a boost gauge, much less a wide band.

Cosworth.
The block deck surface looks a little rough though...

Keep it up. I am just a little bit ahead of you on my build, but I think you got more done in a short time. haha. I am waiting for my arp head studs to get here then i will be able to bolt my head on. I ended up getting another upper pan cause I had mine notched and being picky like I am, I was like o let me just smooth it out some more and I ended up blowing a hole through it. I might just mark it, drill holes through it and weld an aluminum plate on the outside. I wasn't to sold on machining down a brand new stud, but that's just me.
