I have a 1992 240sx with a red top SR20. I only have the original KA compressor and pump though. I've been trying to look for a bracket to connect the compressor to the engine, but they are nearly impossible to find. When they are, the brackets seem to run around $80! I'm trying to get the AC working again any way possible safely. Could I just purchase a SR20 compressor? Will it fit? Also do I need a SR20 compressor bracket as well? I'm not exactly sure about what I need to get the AC working, but I know that I can get someone to make and hook up all of the coolant lines. If I get a SR20 compressor, what else will I need to get the A/C fully functional again assuming that I have none of the A/C parts that need to be under the hood right now?

Thanks, I appreciate the help.

All ac componits from a 92 240sx installed than, you could use the ka compressor but you would have to wait for codyace's custom brackets to get done(in the sr forum). I have been waighting forever! I got his brackets that will let you mount a s14 ka24de compressor on to a red top sr20det. If your s13 ka compressor is the same as an s14 I will sell you the brackets for $50+shipping.I have a blacktop in an s14, so they dident work for me

My KA engine was a S13. Is the compressor bracket pattern the same on both the S13 and S14? If so, it sounds like a good idea!

If not, can I still just buy a SR20 compressor?

Its not the bracket that matters its the compressor. And I'm not sure if they are the same.

Yes but you need some of the sr lines as well and have them welded on to the ka lines.

A shop in Florida quoted me $235 shipped for the compressor, fittings, ac bracket, and a power steering bracket. I can weld practically anything together without a problem, so that isn't an issue. Will I need anything else? Is this a good deal?

I would get your bracket but I don't know if my compressor even works, and I doubt that the red top compressor has the same bracket pattern as the black top compressor.

Thanks for your time.

The red top and black top are different. I have the red top bracket's but I have a black top Your first post you said you dont have any ac components under the hood. So Im guessing you dont have a condenser, dryer, relay, lines....

I'm in the process of purchasing this car, and I'm going to check it out today. However, the man who's selling it said that there aren't any lines under the hood for the AC system. He said that he could have some made though. I'll have to check to see what is missing myself, but I know for sure that I either need a S13 to Red top bracket or a S20 compressor and S20 bracket.

I'm going out to check the car in a couple hours. I'll get back to you then.

Thanks.

Nevermind, when I went there I realized that the job to fix the car would be too expensive. There is no AC system under the hood. Also there is no muffler on the car at all, just a straight pass to the engine. It is definitely not street legal. The entire thing needs an interior overhaul.

I'm still interested in the 240sx, but I doubt that I will ever get one.

I'm actually just going to look around for a high-mileage 240sx or 300zx preferably which is in my budget ($3000).

I really only need this car for 3-4 years to get me through college, but I'd like something that would be fun to drive. If you know anyone who has a 300zx or 240sx that they want to sell even in the 150,000 mile range that runs well, I'll be very interested.

Again, I really appreciate your help. I'll let you know when I find something.

So whats all exactly needed for the a/c with an sr20 compressor. My engine came with on on it. Can I just use the lines from a sohc ka then have some one weld the lines to work? I need this asap my car is about to be on the road in a week or so.
