Ok, im working on a sr20 for a friend, and what happened is that the person who did the install on the car, didnt put the wastegate line on properly, so he boosted 20 psi for like a week without knowing better. So, it started shooting the dipstick out.....blowby.

Compression check went 50,150,150,150

Now...what are the chances that its just a ring landing, or a hole in the piston...and if so...what are the chances that the cylinder is wrecked. Since the motor is near new...i was thinking, tear it apart, replace the one piston, then new bearings, throw it back together and call it a day.

what do you think my chances are...any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

Id bet its either ring, valve seat, or HG.

If it was a ring...what are the chances it took out the cylinder wall....

i know that it melted the electrode off the plug lol, but then again the plugs werent the correct temp anyways.

did it sound like the motor is getting piston slap?Id say rings or HG since you said it was blowing the dipstick out. You need to tear it down anyway so pull it apart and check. If the wall is scorn some it can be bored out some and bigger rings used.

That sucks. What is his setup? Just wondering cause i push 20psi daily on stock block and HG. Been doing it for a year now.

yah but if i bore it out...then im stuck doing a complete rebuild lol. i want to go cheap as bad as it sounds. Hopefully it didnt **** it....no i didnt hear piston slap at all...it ran like a piece of **** tho, haha, still had some power tho.

his setup was completely stock

stock injectors, maf, turbo, all stock...

I willing to bet he blew his ring lands. Sucks but **** happens. Anyways, theres a good chance that piece of the ring lands scratched up your cylinder wall. Now depending on how bad it is, you can get away with honing or just boring it out. Either way, it requires complete disassembly of the engine. You just can't avoid it.

Just rebuild it since you have most of the parts taken out anyways. New bearings are not that much and a brand new stock piston is like 80 bucks and new rings are 100 bucks for a set.
