sr wont crank question

my sr wont crank by itself butif i jut the starter the car will start. Whats the potential problem here? Thanks in advance.

By "jut" do you mean hitting it with a hammer? LOL. I would have the started tested. Can you hear the starter relay clicking and are the fuses all good?
