Got a strange problem here with my SR...

Was running perfect since I got it back from XAT. One day I shut it off at a gas station after a long drive (~20 miles). Came back out, and it wouldn't restart. Starter turned over, but engine wouldn't fire.

Came back about 5 hours later (engine was cool), it started back up and ran just fine.

Since then it's continued to repeat this pattern: starts and runs fine when it's cold, but if you shut it off once it's warmed up, it won't restart until the engine has cooled all the way back down.

Engine appears to be getting fuel, but no spark after it's warmed up and shut off. I'm thinking it's something ignition-and-heat-related, but have no idea where to start looking. Any ideas on what the problem might be? Other things to look for? I don't have an FSM for the SR20, mine is for the KA24.

Thanks...I hate these stupid gremlins!

could be a bad ignitor. doesn't like to work once hot.

what side do you have the ignitor mounted? stock side (exhaust side of the bay)?

you might have to replace your temperature sensor

Found it - actually it's mounted on the intake side of the bay. Right above the intake collectors, as a matter of fact. Tried shifting it as far away from the engine as I could, but still has the same problem. Maybe wrap it in tinfoil as an ad hoc heat shield?

Another thing I noticed - if I stall the engine out, it'll restart as long as I don't shut the ignition off, even if warmed up. Once it's warmed up and the ignition is turned off, it won't restart.

The gremlins continue to plague mine head...

could be a bad starter a motor has more restance to start when warm because the tolerances get smaller (excluding a dry crank with cold oil but since you are in florida probably not) check the voltage drops of the power and ground wires to your starter

And the winner is...*drumroll*

SR20detness. It was a bad coolant temp sensor. When I took out the old one, the sensor arm was nearly broken in half. No problems starting anymore. Thanks!
