hi, i'm helping a friend swap a s14 motor into his 95, and well it runs really well at idle, and can be put in gear when the car was sitting on jackstands and run throughout the gears. yesterday his suspension finally came in, and when we finally got ready for a test drive, it wouldnt go into gear at all when running. when the motor was shut off, it would slide into gears easy, but when starting, no such love. any ideas?

cliffnotes: car used to go in gear when on jackstands, lowered the car to drive, won't go into gear now. help!!

thanks

how would you go about doing that. btw its a brand new excedy multi-disc w/flywheel. so i highly doubt its the clutch for some reason.

if you can put the car into gear with the motor off, or the drive wheels off the ground, the clutch would be the first suspect.

the TOB is installed wrong, the pivot is out of whack, the slave cylinder is not working, the entire clutch was incorrectly installed, ect ect...

well, before you pull the trans, make sure the slave cylinder is operating. bleed the line if you exposed the hydraulic system to atmosphere.

if the throw out fork is operating, but the transmission still wont go into gear with the engine running, then you have to pull the trans.

well, i'm going to start off by re-adjusting the clutch pedal, just in case its not fully engaging, and then re-bleed slave cyl. (btw its a brand new nismo unit) so there shouldnt be any problem there, and if the problem persists, then i'll pull the trans. i hope not, but i just want to get it done already. thanks for the heads up guy's!!
