I got my hands on a used CA18DET SMIC...will this support an SR as long as I do not boost above 7psi?

This is just going to be a temporary solution...but still...will it work?

EDIT: This is a northeast car, not worried about high temperatures. IC piping will not be a problem, my main concern is will it handle the stock boost.

The CA intercooler is the worse peice of crap you can bolt to a SR, most CA guys chuck theirs in favor of a SR sidemount when they are on a budget.

If you want a temporary solution, go get a 1g DSM sidemount, $30-50 and will out cool both SR and CA sidemounts.

Just wondering, have any evidence to prove that the 1g dsm smic can out-cool the sr and ca smic?

yeah, all the DSM guys driving around with the stock sidmount laying down 260-280 HP. 2 of them welded together is rated at over 450hp by dejontool.

but the point is that the CA sidemount is pretty much the trashiest IC you can bolt to your car, its notorious for being the cause of blown headgaskets in the CA community.

The stock t25 can lay down 250 on the smic with the right mods. The real s15 t28 can lay down close to 300 on its smic. Time to go find a dsm ic now :rolleyes

well, my logic is a SR sidemount costs $100 from most places, most people get no intercooler with their clip/motorset, and the DSM intercooler is $30.

Thanks, SWIFT_DRIFT and J-Spec Tuner

I didn't realize the CA IC was such as POS. I guess it's back to the junkyard...

I guess the next question that begs to be asked then is let's say I can find a 1g DSM IC...anyone have any pics of how you routed the piping?

...anyone want to buy a used CA SMIC?

:D

let's see, most sr smic i've seen for sale include all the piping. i didn't know a dsm ic was a bolt on affair with no pipes. you just buy it, open your hood, carelessly toss the ic into the engine bay, close the hood and you're ready to go...

i'd rather find a good sr ic so your install is clean instead of spending the time making custom piping for a dsm ic. even if you home depot that **** it will look like ***.

I was planning on running a 1g dsm smic, since my motor set didnt come a ic. But I would have to the outputs redone or run a really weird setup. I just went with ebay and got an old s14 fmic, and used mandrel 90s to make my ic piping. The whole setup cost less than 300.

I am running the 1g rad and fans.
