I got a 90 with an SR20 swap and now all i need is a new battery cause i got a FMIC. Were could i get a small battery or should i get a relocater kit to the trunk. What are the proes and cons with both?

I bought a sealed race battery from pdmracing.com. Untill then, I drove around with a lawnmower battery. The sealed battery is smaller, lighter and more expensive. The lawnmower bat worked fine. My sr cranked with about 330-350 cca.

Pro: its easier than a battery relocation to the trunk, no wiring. Probably cheaper (lawnmower battery, or miata battery) is only like $40 vs a relocation kit. I dont know about autoX or drift events, but at our local drag track, if you have a battery in the trunk, you need to have an external kill switch.

Con: I went through a spat of crappy alternators. When your alt goes kaput, you dont have much juice in the batt to get you home. Walking home sucks...

Battery in trunkPro: use your same old battery. Better weight balance.

Con: external kill switch? see above. I read a few horror stories about batteries tipping over and spilling acid. Probably want to install a fuse block, thats a couple bucks extra. Possible current loss in the wiring from the trunk to the starter.

Thats all the ideas I can come up with, if some sound half ***, its just because Im throwing everything I can think of out there.

if you buy a proper mounting kit for a relocation, a rear mount solution works. however, rear mounting typically puts the weight behind the rear wheels, whenb you'd rather have the weight shifted to the middle of the car. a smaller battery crammed in the front by the IC piping is common, and doesn't require a ton of rewiring.

I actually put both a miata battery in front and another larger one in the back. I never bothered putting a kill switch, just put an eighty amp fuse at the miata battery where the wire goes back to the other one just in case of short. I only did this because I've got a large sound system located in the trunk and frankly a miata battery or lawnmower battery is going to have enough juice to feed a large sound system and the car. Plus got lots of time in case of alternator failure. Plus having the miata battery up front generally makes people not even think to look in the trunk. So thats my two cents.

Don't remember any exact years but I believe there all the same. Just go to an auto parts store and ask for one and see what they bring ya. Should be pretty small. You'll be able to tell if it'll fit.
