after spending about 2 weeks trying to figure out why my car wouldnt start i finally figured out that the harness was meant for a a j4 ecu, my motors a blacktop. after i repined the ecu harness, everything besides the speedo and the temperature gauge worked. occasionally the speedo would work, it just comes and goes.

now to get to my question. ive wired everything up the way that it is suppose to be wired up, yet those two gauges do not work. where should i start? and the second is that sometimes when you slam the passenger door the tach dies and the car runs on limp mode, and i found that if you jiggle the harness a bit it runs normal. i was wondering if anyone else had this problem, and if it can be fixed?

If the harness was J4 then that probably means the engine was an S13 Kouki blacktop. Those particular engines actually received S14 temp sensors and S14 speed sensors. To get the guages to work right you need to get the S13 temp and speed sensors back into the engine. The other problems may be attributed to the a loose ecu connection or harness wire connection being weak.

then that explains why the speed sensor on the transmission was different. so i guess if i were to buy the right harness that would fix the last issue.
