Well i had it running for about a week or so, but when i would get on it there was a loud noise under the valve cover(timing chain). After replacing the chain and guides and my tensioner, i havent been able to start it. I got fuel i got spark, still a no go. when i put on my chain it was all accurate with the marks on the cam gears and that lower gear. and i made sure it was at TDC. i also stabbed the CAS right, being that it was my 4th time doing it, and it worked before the chain replacement. heres the list of whats it doing.-backfiring through the intake-oozing a thick black smoke from the fart can-backfiring a little (exhaust)-wetting the hell outta my plugs(new plugs)-turning over then itll stop then turnover again (never letting off of the key-if you hook up a timing gun it didnt flash(but it does spark, might be the gun)-if you give it some gas while trying to start it will back fire a little out the can.

please help -

Sounds to me like your 180 off. You sure your mechanical timing is good?

the shiny links were on the dots on the gears, and there were 20 links between the cam gear dots. thats right . right?

Timing is horribly off.

Reinstall CAS.

Turn the engine over by hand till piston 1 is at TDC, check your marks again. You might have skipped a tooth.

this happened to me when i did my chain a little while ago. I went by the marks. I counted teeth, but yet I ended up being 180 off. I pulled the CAS, turned it over 180 degrees and it fired right up.

I had backfiring out the intake. The reason why is because the car was trying to fire on TDC of the exhaust stroke, not the compression stroke. So the intake valve is opening as the spark plug is igniting, and occasionally something will ignite, causing a popping out the intake.

It took me two weeks of diagnosing, checking fuel pressure, changing plugs, changing out most electrical components (MAF ECU PTU, etc) to throw a hail mary out and rotate the CAS.

EDIT: just a side note. When your plugs get completely bathed in fuel, they won't ignite, hence no spark when your light is hooked up.

I had thought I put my CAS in using the correct marks and it barely ran, and like wise each time i tryed installing the recomended way. Ended up being way to retarded causeing the fuel to still be burning as it went out the exaust. I decided to just try and move the CAS gear one tooth in either direction. It ended up being off by that one tooth and ran great afterwords.
