I have a s13 and I checked the timing and it all seemed right. I might be wrong but it looked right.

It looked right and it is right are two different things.

You need to check it.

Check for air leaks, and check the TPS voltage.

Check your maf wiring and make sure you are using the right maf.

The ECU will resort to it's base map if the knock sensor is not plugged in. It simply will not ever retard timing.

A quick test would be to unplug the knock sensor, and see if the motor will idle.

I do not believe it is a knock sensor issue.

thanks for the info on the knock sensor, but i know a few sr's that have had that problem. or maybe assumed that was the problem.

Typically knock sensors are intermittant, and cause misfiring under 40%+ throttle position and sometimes at idle.
