Hey guys, I'm having a reoccuring problem with my SR. The rocker arms for intake cylinder 1 and 2 keep flying off while it runs. This is the second time that this has happened, the first time, it may have been that I didn't tighten down the intake cam tight enough, but this time, everything was nice and tight, but 1 and 2 still flew off. I've got rocker arm stoppers which are supposed to keep them from flying off as well, and I doubt that it's that though, since it's from Tomei, a very reputable company, but then again they might also have off days every so often. So I'm not too sure what to think. But this is getting out of hand, I'm getting just too damn fast at taking apart the head components to deal with this and quite frankly it's quite frustrating. Any ideas guys? Also, it's not that I'm revving high either, it's only getting revved at max 3k but even then it still pops.

Are there any clicking noises while idling? My main guess would be that your HLA (hydraulic lifters) have too much air in them causing them to fly off. What I would do is take an oil gun and spray oil on top of the lifters in that little hole to get all the air out. Make sure the hlas are stiff and wont push down. Do this to all of them. If you here noises it could be the hlas or maybe the shims? Maybe you need to reshim your shims. Hope that helps.

yeah this thing's got me stumped. it happens only on the intake side, consistantly to rocker 1 and this time to rocker 2. I was thinking that it could be the shims too, but the shims with grooves have been broken on the suspect rockers. I have bled the pivots already.

I took out the lash adjusters, dumped them in a big bucket of oil and took a small metal rod this time to press the metal ball until the bubbles came out. I did squish them up and down which pumped more of the bubbles out when they were in the bucket of oil. When they were nice and full of oil, in they went and took a small syringe and injected more oil into them before the rocker arm went on. Tightened everything back down.

At the moment, I've got 2 more rocker arms coming in to replace the two suspect rocker arms, more shims and I'm gonna pull the oil pan tomorrow to see if any metal shavings are down there that I haven't caught. Hopefully sr20store's gonna be quick about the shipping of those parts.

So you're saying that your rocker arm guides(grooves) broke!?! I'm kinda in a valvetrain mix up my self. While laying my head down on my floor i tipped it over and my shims, rocker arms, guides got all mixed up! Need to get a feeler gauge now =\. Yea I'd suggest to replace your suspected rocker arms. That will probably fix your problem....hopefully
