ok i bought my motor from my brothers friend who said it has a aftermarket transmission. I can hear the gears spinng while im in idle until i put it in gear, and @ 3k rpm 5th gear im running at 65mph. Is it normal for a sr? Im not sayingt i have one, im just curious.

You shouldnt be able to hear the gears at idle since they arent spinning. Perhaps you are hearing the clutch, floater plate?

3000 RPM's in 5th gear is 65. Sounds like a normal transmission with a transmission whine.

A couple of things can make a transmission real loud. The first one that comes to mind is, Did You Put Oil In It? That will lunch all the bearings and cause all sorts of noise.

Assuming you did put oil in it, if it's making that much noise it's a safe bet that it has some heavy wear. If the noise is in Neutral and goes away when the clutch is pushed in and you shift into 1st, you proably have a bad input bearing. When you shift into 1st you lock the input shaft to the output shaft so if the car is stopped the input shaft stops rotating.

One other thought, try sitting in neutral and listening to the noise, and thern push the clutch pedal in but NOT putting it into gear. Does the noise go away then, even though you are still in Neutral? If so, you probably have a bad clutch throwout bearing.

The short of it is that if you are sure you have enough of the right oil in it and the trans makes that much noise you will have to pull the transmission back out and apart to fix whatever is causing that noise.
