Hey guys, I have a question about how much it would cost to build the transmission that comes with an SR front clip so that it would handle 500whp? I am looking at purchasing a Nissan 240SX Fastback and installing an SR with a GT28R turbo. I also want to upgrade the cams and convert it to solid lifters. I know that I will have to upgrade the valves and valve springs and find a decent tuning solution but thats what I want to do. What do you guys think? TIA.

Well first and foremost a GT28R will not make but around 300 whp with a good tune. The SR transmission can hold 500 hp just needs a twin plate or triple plate clutch. You will need a gt3071r or bigger to make 500 hp.

wait, if I'm reading it right, I need a GT30R to make 500whp. Will the SR be able to spool that turbo without MAJOR lag?

well since you are upgrading the valvetrain, you are going to jump your redline up to 8000-8500 rpms. the gt30r lag is just a tad more than the gt2871r, but with new cams and solid lifters it will pull much harder up top and make up for that slight loss of power down low.

If you want a solid transmission for the SR and are aiming for high HP then get the 300zx transmission and buy the adapterplate. And also you dont need a twin disc for 500 hp. They make single disc setups that will hold that.

Also sounds like you have little idea of what your doing so do you think your ready to build an SR block?

i'm not going to do it. i have a mechanic who will. He drifts a 240 with a red top SR so he knows how to work on it. I will be able to have him teach me some of the things to do so it wont be too bad.
