SR transmission = KA transmission?

My SR is finally swapped and the transmission is making a lot of funny noises. If this needs rebuilt, can a transmission shop use a KA transmission rebuild kit to fix it up? When I let off of the gas it makes a bad sound that to me sounds like bearings not spinning well. At least it runs and drives now.

I did do a search, but didn't see anything stating that a KA rebuild kit would work.

Any help is much appreciated.

Actually, I just found some info stating that the internals are basically the same.

So is it definite that a transmission shop can rebuild this transmission using a domestic KA rebuild kit?

they are the same it is the housing that is different. don't know if you can use the ka rebuild kit...should work if you think about it though.

coudl you use a ka s14 transmission on a s14 sr? This has probably been asked b4 jsut confirming.

so nobody has actually rebuilt an SR transmission yet with KA parts?

SR might have stronger gears as KA is N/A motor and doesnt put out as much power as SRs do, which I think should have stonger gears to hold the power without breaking, just my opinion.

same gears...the KA has proven (to me so far) that it can hold power...504rwhp is alot.

Is anybody absolutely certain that they use the same internals? I don't want to drop the car off at some transmission shop and find out later that they can't fix it.

Im going to assuem if you can switch the bellhousings and have it fit up then you can swtich gears. just assuming though ill leet you think about that one.

I can verify that they are all indeed the same internals. I ought to know, I've a KA and SR transmission both sitting in a friends garage. They're different only at the bellhousings.
