i just got threw reading some of the old threads about timing on the sr and now im confused.i printed out the timing diagram from phase2motortrend.but i read some where theat i had to turn the crack over like 6or 7 timings to get to tdc and the marks on the crack to line up. is this true or what, also do i have to losen the belts or somethin.im only getting 160 miles per tank. at 10psi and 180 at 7psi, and i need to get this fixed before this weekend, going to driftshowoff in houston on sat.the car sputters at low rpm but runs fine when at half or full throttle.

TDC is shown on the main crank pully. It's one of the tick marks and the phase2 diagram should point out the correct mark. Just line it up with the needle that's attached to your block.

Timing issues don't usually make up for that low of mileage, but try to get it reset to 15 BTDC and see what kind of mileage you get.

Setting the timing on SR's sucks. I had no luck with my inductive timing light and the loop at the back of the valve cover. It was reading WAY off. What ended up working for me was just putting the inductive clamp around the cyl 1 coilpack wires.

Setting the timing manually works great if you do it just right but it is kinda confusing. I'd check it with a light.

If your timing is good, check for a fuel leak. Should be easy to find, it will be the clean spot -LOL

Bart's SR timing check 101:

step one - procure an extra coilpack and length of spark plug wire.

step two - insert plug wire into coil pack's plug end and tape in place

step three - attack plug wire to #1 plug and connect coil pack to harness

step four - set up timing light and attach light to plug wire

step five - check timing and rotate CAS as needed.

that's my dummy way of doing it and it works :)

I just hooked up my inductive pickup around the ground wire for cylinder #1 coil. I never have to remove anything to adjust timing.
