Yesterday, I had my valve cover off and noticed that there was a bit of slack on the timing chain between the cam gears. I removed the tensioner (upgraded version) reinstalled it, cranked counterclockwise until it released. Then I loosended up the (2) 10mm bolts until I heard a couple of clicks making the tensioner advance a couple of teeth and tightened the whole assembly back up. Now the chain was drawn pretty taut across the cam gears. Is there such a thing as the chain being TOO tight?

nah. but there is a problem with too loose.

I had a similar issue on my old timing chain. After I finished the job, the slack between the cam gears was gone throughout the whole rotation of the assembly, but when I compared the old chain to the new chain, there was minimal stretch. In my case, it was the tensioner.
