hey,

well not too long ago i cleaned out my idle air control valve according to the write up on here with carb cleaner. The car would always start up and run before i just wanted to make it run a bit more smoothly. So after i used the cleaner, i waited the amount of time it says and then started up my car. Now it makes a kind of loud ticking noise that increases in speed as engine speed increases. I figured it collapsed one of the lifters so i pulled out the cams and got all the lifters out. i noticed a lot of tick marks on the rear lobe of the exhaust cam so i figured most likely that was the collapsed lifter and replaced it. I bled all of the lifters before installing them back in started the car up, and it makes the exact same noise. Dosnt seem to be quite as loud but is still pretty loud. If anyone has any advice or ideas, i would really appreciate that!

thanks

somewhat, its hard to tell from the video though cuz the quality kinda sucks. it is definatily a ticking sound though, not a knock.

is it spark knock - from wrong plugs ? BKR6E works well .Or is it the injectors - those can get noisy ?Good Luck

In my case it was the injectors. Put the metal end of a flat head on the injectors and the handle up to your ear. The injectors should make a whirring noise when they are working properly. If you hear the ticking on rhythm with the sound you are hearing from the injectors you will have located your culprit.

That a pretty good idea syncing up the ticking with the hum from the screwdriver. That would work There is another guy that just posted the same problem. He no only searched, he didnt even read what was on the board, lol
