Posting this for a friend, he has a notchtop SR in his 95 S14. The car has many issues, trying to fix one at a time. A slight ticking noise started a while ago and just got worse over time. He had a local speed shop install a new set of rockers, not sure if they were OEM or aftermarket but that did not stop the ticking. My guess, (SR's arnt my specility) were that 1 he has low oil pressure or the hydrolic lash adjustments leaked and now have air in them. I just wanted to know what your idea's would be on what was causing the ticking. The tick is RPM variable and is deff coming from the valve train. Anyway, if anymore info is need'd ask away. Thanks for reading all this, Bryan

Possibly a spun crank or rod bearing?? My brother KA-E did that. The sound wasn't bad but steadily got worst until it finally went south.

pull the lash adjusters out ...get a cup...a paperclip or smaller pointy thing (no jokes here hehe) and some 10w30 coastal and plunge away(again no jokes perverts)...make sure you get in that small little groove. I had to do it to mine ...works just fine.
