ok, i remember i was told that i should run a t25 sr turbo and can run 5-6psi safely on a stock internals KA24de with a 8:1 fmu.

to my understanding, to control boost, i needed a boost controller, and a WG. and the setup would be manifold >>>turbo >>>boost controller >>>WG.now how would it work with an internalWG?

now, it dawned on me that the sr t25 is internally wastegated, correct? at 7psi?so do i get a boost controller to lower this to 5-6psi?how do i get around the internal wastegate?

i talked to my friend about how to safely lower the 7psi pumped from the t25 to 5-6 psi, and he said its not easy to do and not safe to do because it risks boost spikes and can ruin my turbo.

can anyone help me shed some light on this matter? i really dont want to blow my engine

I dont think you will be happy with 5-6 psi. dont know if possible, probably have to replace the wastegate. IF you dont want to blow your motor then get bigger injectors and e-mance tune and you can run 7psi all day long w/out worryin about blowing anything. I believe boost controllers cost more than e-mance tune. also w/retard timing and no ecu tune you will have a little lag in response(not talking about turbo lag). E-mance have timing control which will gaurantee good response and power.

so bascially with a bigger injectors, a good tune, my ka block can still take 7-8 psi with stock internals safely?

btw, the stock sr t25 is internally gated at 7 OR 8 psi?

could i get away with using safc? i ask because the used kit i bought comes with one...

Ka's can handle a lot of boost in stock form, It is considered safe until like 270whp. anymore you should at least build the block and you will be fine. But there are few that made up to 400whp w/ no problem . check out Cory's ka-t on youtube.it is 7psi stock but might have a little boost creep to 8psi. go w/450cc or bigger injectors d-werk if you decide to go bigger turbo later. You can use the afc w/ ecu tune but it may mess up timing. Go w/ emance, gauarantee you will be happy. just make sure you have something to monitor afr and get some cold spark plugs rating of like 7's.If you get emance tune, you can dyno & send emance a graph of afr and emance will send you a chip with fine tune. Plus you will get 25+mpg under regular driving.

ok, ive decided to go e-mancei also have sr 370cc injectors and walbro , so i am set tune-wise.

also, im set on not upgrading any further loljust need to remember to get colder plugs after i get the tune

also, the e-mance guy, jason, told me the stock internal WG for the sr t25 is 8psi. but you guys are saying 7psi with boost creep to 8psi.

so to be safe and still not get crappy mpg, should i tell him to tune it to a 8psi or 7psi setup?

The ecu will come tuned to the max that your injectors and MAF can handle. The maf measures the air coming in so its going to adjust for whatever psi.

sounds like you're on the right track. Just tell jason that you are running sr-t25 and let him know you are running off the stock wastegate. He knows what he is doing so he will do it right. I preferre you sending him the ecu and installing it if you dont have any experience w/ soldering. heard a guy on Nico messed up his ecu because he installed it wrong.

I think you should be fine for now, later on when you get more money you should upgrade your fpr, usually they crapp out due to the high pressure from the 255lph walbro. I been stuck on the freeway a few times due to a bad fpr right after running my turbo for like 2 months. Just something to keep in mind that MIGHT come up.

so u mean ill have to get a new stock fpr (the stock 1:1 one?) later down the road? should i just get a "performance one" now?

btw, when it craps out on your, does your car just suddenly stall? that way ill have an idea of what wrong when it happens...

You really need an aftermarket FPR with a high flow fuel pump.

Get an after market one like aeromotive, i heard they are good. but there are a lot more in the market that are good.

When i had my fpr problem i was on the freeway and going around 70mph, all of a sudden the car just spudder and then it wanted to die and when i gave it some gas it didnt respond. Did that a few time and then it shut off on me on the freeway. scared the Sh*t out of me, when i try starting it up it wouldnt start right back up. you would also have a really strong smell of gas right by the injectors. one way to find out is to take out one of the line, like the top fuel line from the fuel filter and let some fuel out. try to start the car with w/out pressing the gas pedal. if it starts up fine then it's the fpr.

I think it was flooding the engine w/ too much fuel, thats why it had a strong smell of gas by the injectors. i had to drive in the slow lane and hope it didnt die on me. It died 3 times before i got home since i was on my way from dyno shop about 1hr &30min drive. I almost gave up my ka-t set-up at that point. went through a lot of crapp, but when i got all the bugs fixed, my bro took the car out to race his buddy and success. beating on 13 sec cars, mild mod 350z, stock srt-4 and the only one where he lost to was a srt-4 w/ bigg *** &loud turbo. probably in the 12's.

i was impressed by the power we made w/ small t25.

Lol sorry to bump such an old topic, but what did you guys do about cooling the sr's t25? The guy i'm probably going to buy mine from just told me that it's water cooled, so the only way I see of cooling it is doing that trick with the water lines going to the intake and diverting them to the turbo. I googled it and didn't really come up with anything, I was just wondering what your setup looked like. Thanks

Check the sticky Ka-T info at the top of the page, theres a writeup about how to do it.

You dont need to supply a t25 with coolant however. You can leave those ports open and it wont effect a thing.

even though you dont have to run it, i'd do it anyways just for assurance..always good to run coolant than not run it unless the turbo isnt made for watercool...

assurance= turbo timer, or drive like you have sense, for a minute or so before you shut down.

Also, To control an internally gated turbo setup you need to have an adjustable wastegate arm, or make the one you have adjustable, like I did to my old t25. Key with this is to make small adjustments.

Haha ok thanks guys, I was worried for a second that I wasn't going to be able to use this turbo. (I was thinking it was water-cooled only...wow I feel like a noob) Yeah I had read the write up on how to run the intake mani water lines to the turbo, and I might still do that, but more than likely I will just drive it like a grandma before I turn it off or get a turbo timer. Thanks again.

P.S. Does $150 for sr injectors and a t25 sound like a good deal? Lol sorry to totally threadjack abc123omg

Yep, thats all you need to do. A water cooled turbo(journal bearing) isnt going to really do much other than slightly offset the damage caused by hot shut offs(-turbo rebuilder). If you have any sense about you you wont have any problems. Im not saying to not run water cooling because that is a legitimate benefit. However, IMO i do not believe it is worth the trouble or risk on a standard journal bearing turbo.

150 for a working t25 and injectors is a GREAT deal if they are in working order. The price makes me a little suspicious however, be careful if you pick that up.

Yeah, supposedly the t25 was rebuilt and since has only been run at stock boost, and all I know about the injectors is that they work haha. They guy said there was practically no shaft play, buy what should I physically check on the turbo?

Thats about all you can really do man. Check for side to side shaft play and in and out play. Any in and out play is horrible. Side to side play is normal, but make sure there has been no contact with the housings and the play isnt excessive.

You can take a flash light and look inside the CHRA oil feed and drain to see how much if any oil coking is there. That will tell you a little about how the turbo has been used/abused. If you see a lot of flakey black stuff that means that its been abused.

You could also take off the housings and check for leaky seals, but thats a bit to much to ask a seller to do IMO.
