This is what I'm working with. I have a '90 I bought and pulled the KA out of and swapped in a sr. Its mostly stock except for the t28 and FMIC. I don't have a battery yet (havent relocated it) so I used jumper cables to test fire it. I couldn't get any power at all in the car. Well, I fixed the issue by getting some better grounds. Now all is well as far as the elec. part. Now, I went to turn the motor over and it cranks very slow and something doesnt seem right.

Right now, I'm sort of leaning towards the CAS, but havent tested it yet. The original was smashed, so I replaced it w/ one I bought off a member. I smelled some fuel on the plugs when I pulled them, and there seems to be plenty of pressure in the line. I can also hear the pump prime when I turn the key. Here's a clip to show what it sounds like. Try to ignore the roar from my fan on the truck. I set the camera on the truck while it was running, but you can still hear what you need to hear from the car. Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Bwarren, i'm moving this to the SR-specific forum as I think you'll get some better help there, leaving a redirect here so you'll find it!

Ran to a somewhat simliar problem. DON'T CONTINUE TRYING TO CRANK IT. Check out your timing man. Thank god I found out before hand, or else it would have been a bent valve for me :/. Also make sure your coil packs are getting juice, and make sure to set timing both by chain and by CAS. There is a write up for the CAS on FRSport i believe.

I had a feeling it was the timing... its nice hearing that from someone else too. Looks like I"ll be re-checking the CAS this weekend when I get some time.

You're not going to damage your valves in this situation. You stated the problem without even realizing it. You reinstalled your CAS, but you didn't mention anything about setting your cam and crank timing to TDC. Pull out the CAS. Remove the Valve cover. You'll need a 24mm socket.

Take socket and rotate the exhaust cam until your crank pulley notch. 2nd one from the left is lined up with the pin.
Then check and see if your intake cam's key is at 10 o'clock and your exhaust cam's key is at 12 o'clock.
If not, do it one more time. It reaches this point once per every 2 times you turn it over to that position.
Once you're there, look at the indentions on the cams, and make sure you have 11 notches between them. That's including the ones right above the indentions as well. If so, your mechanical timing is dead-on and you're now at TDC on cylinder #1. Reinstall your CAS. You'll line up 1 dot and then once inserting it'll rotate around to the next dot. Your CAS should be dead centered on the bolts with the dot lined up.

EDIT: Here's a link with images from a NICO Sponsor. http://www.frsport.com/How-To-Set-Crank ... _t_25.html

Note: You don't need to have the colored links on the chain line up. Those are for the initial install of the chain.

can i get a little prop for mentioning it?! Come on, I felt good to know I mentioned something that people agree on. It actually made my day that I actually knew what he was (sort of) running into. . .

Thanks for the write-up on the CAS.... it was more helpful than the FRSport one IMO. I got the car cranked this morning. Sounds like a lawn mower right now cuz I"m just running an open elbow. Just let it run for about 20 seconds, and now I have to finish up some small things here and there. I'll put a vid. up later.

This is just open turbo elbow. I'm going to put my 3" downpipe on and get a straight pipe made. Only issue I ran into was that my oil feed line is leaking at the block, so I'm going to try some different crush washers to see if it'll seal the leak. I havent let it run long because of that, but it seems pretty smooth so far.

NICE!! Reminds me of when I first started mine with nothing but a downpipe.. I then, proceeded to drive it home, so that it could sit for a few months while I was in Iraq. Of course, being deployed, I dumped the extra money into a 3071R. ;) Don't make my mistake. Enjoy and drive it for a while...

Finally drove it. This was the first drive... had just bled the clutch and added fluids. Then I checked for leaks/ etc. and took it back down the road to the gas station. I still have some bugs to work out, but its driving so I'm happy.

Add an oil separator where the T fitting is (Where you have the red mini-filter) and recirculate it back into your intake. If not, you'll build up too much pressure in the crank case. (At least that's what I've always heard.)

I'm planning on adding a catch can, but this $3 filter is taking its place for now. I think a couple of my vacuum lines arent right, and I seemed to be hitting fuel cut some. Also, I'm going to have to investigate some on my powersteering. Its trying to pump it out of the reservoir and overflowing. I havent looked into it yet.
