I'm looking an at SR20 swap as an economic investment.

What I mean, is my '96 KA is running great, pampered since day one-so I can't justify the expense ONLY in the intrest of horsepower. When miles get higher and realibility decreases, I want to do the swap.

Does the stock SR20 run as a really reliable engine? Has anyone who purchased a new or low milage engine had any cronic problems?

It looks like I'd be spending $5000 or a little less for the lower cost model SR20 (black/redtop whichever) S14 everything to hook up, and installation? That correct?

Thanks for your Thoughts!

Its just as reliable as the person who drives it. If you take care of the engine and do regular maintenance, it will last you just as long or longer then the KA. Also the economic standpoint, for better fuel milage make sure you tune it right. Crude tuning not only leads to quicker engine failure but lower gas milage and lower power output effeciency also.

SR180SX, the SR20DET driven in a S13 gets anywhere from 13(heavy foot) to 28-30mpg. Check out SR20.hybrids.jp. They have a post about gas milage and MANY of them have great milage.

28-30 mpg avg are high for SR20DET, I am getting about 20-22 for stock boost, and I don't consider myself as heavy foot.. I am not saying it's not possible someone getting 28-30mpg but even that some honda's getting 40+ mpg
