I know internet engine diagnostics is very difficult, but I am at a loss here. I'll try and describe the problem I am having as best I can, so please bear with me if this post gets long.

I just swapped an S-13 blacktop engine into a 1990 HB. it has been about 2 weeks and the car has not run right at all during that time. The problem I am having is an extreme lack of power. I can drive the car fine if I am easy on the gas, but once I try to boost the car just bogs down and either starts to buck or just gradually accelerates. definitley not that "suck you back in your seat" feeling, or even "KA Power" feeling.

I have not hooked up my boost gauge yet, mainly because I have been trying to figure out what the problem with the motor is. but I know it's boosting because I can feel the pressure build in the rubber sections of the SMIC piping and the BOV definitley blows off after I rev it and let off the gas. Also as I accelerate I hear the turbo spool up, there is just no resulting increase in acceleration, but after I let off the gas the BOV blows off.

I have changed MAFS's 3 times, just incase the other two were bad. I have checked and set the timing. I have gone through all the turbo plumbing to find leaks, and found none. I pulled my plugs and looked at them to see if I was running rich/lean, they looked ok, but if anything a bit on the lean side.

Now here are some weird things that I have noticed. I got a gauge cluster from a wrecked 93 dohc, but the Tach is way off, The guy who did the timing said it was reading almost double what it should. The Gas gauge on the cluster is off the charts, it just goes all the way past the top until it hit the edge of the panel. The Speedo seems to be correct. The temp gauge seems ok, it gradually rises until it settles on about the 4-5th bar, which seems a little hot, but I'm using the KA radiator.

I'm also getting an ECU error code 34. After I reset the ECU I checked it before I started the car and got code 55. Then I started it again let it run for like 30 seconds, reved it a bit. Checked the ECU again and got the same 34 error code.

I am at a total loss here, I don't know what's up with this thing. I have gone though and physically checked everything at least twice. And about a million times in my head.

here are some mods I did while the engine was out:

Greddy 1.2 headgasketT-28 turbo+ other standard supporting mods, minus FMIC which I won't get until I figure out what's wrong.

If anyone has had any simialr problem, PLEASE let me know what you did to correct this. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, I'm all ears.

I'm gonna go and get the compression in all 4 cyl's check tomorrow, and also try and get the fuel pressure checked. but for gods sake, this is driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated.

I know you said you checked and said its not a boost leak but sometimes they are hard to find. My cousin use to get leaks all the time when he first got his Mr2 up and running, and i would always try to find them. Berlive me the smallest leak can cause all kinds of problems. Wish you had your booost gauge hooked up, that would help alot.

Knock Sensor. Although the knock sensor wouldn't really cause that problem, I don't think. I know some people take that off to stop the ECU from taking away timing.

it's fixed. There were a few things wrong. the FPR was bad, and the timing, although it was done a few days ago, was also way off. Also I found some lose grounds and tightened them down.the timing was done today by a different person, and that pretty much cleared the problem up. I don't know how the other guy did it, but he didn't do it right. A timing light is now on my list of tools to buy, can't trust anyone these dayz:P

So I'm pretty happy now that it's running good. Just want to thank everyone who helped me out. I didn't know that much about cars when I first thought about doing this swap, and some might say I still don't, but I have learned a lot in the process and that was part of my goal.
