Hello, i've been trying to find a 240 coupe for months now and i finally fell upon a 89 coupe with a ka24de single cam motor that doesnt run due to a rod knock.

1. My concerns are which sr20det motor to purchase and what additional parts to get to have the car running.
2. The guy selling me the car told me the car has an after market flywheel and clutch for the ka transmission, do i need a new transmission? i'd like to keep the after market parts but are they compatible with the sr motor..? i was told a new bell housing would be all thats needed to make it work for the sr idk if thats true, efficient, and ALL i would need.

i know im missing a bunch of stuff so i'll stay posted on this post to answer and questions.
like i said, im a nooob! lol any help would be much appreciated. thank you! :)

Which motor depends on your skill level and bank roll. S13 swap is the cheapest and the easiest but only has 205 hp. The s14 and s15 have vtc, but if you are going to build the motor with very aggressive cams, vtc can become an issue.
Basically you will need engine, trans (or just the sr bell housing if you can find one), wiring harness, ecu, igniter chip, fmic, an sr radiator with hoses (or custom route the stock radiator)

What is vtc? I'm debating upon a red top sr and black top.? Some guy is selling a sr transmission for 150..how would I know if the trany is any good? Is it one of those take risk things? I'm not rich so $ is tight but somewhat available. 19 working at a restaurant. This s13 would be my first car and I want to do it right from the beginning

Vtc or vct or what ever they call it is variable cam timing. its pretty much nissans version of v-tec. As for the trans, it will be hit and miss. I guys you could spin the output shaft and mess with the gears and see how smooth it is but that well still not tell you how the trans really is. Thr good thing is, if it is bad and your original trans is still good you could swap the bell housing from your sr trans trip your old ka trans and run that. What ever you choose, the most important thing to get right is the wiring. If not don't right, can cause a world of headaches.
