i am highly considering getting an Sr20det Redtop. The only local shop that I know of charges $3,600.00 for a redtop w/ roughly 35k miles. This is w/ full install and new fuel pump. The engine comes w/ a waranty and is inspected prior to install. Also, how much would i be able to sell my ka w/92k miles for? Are there any other parts suggested w/ a Sr? Thank You-Bill

Ka-T Indeed. Ka will get you about $350-$400. Not a bad price on the swap and Install based on what I have seen.

Depending on the condition of the KA motor, it will be around $500-750. But with that low mileage KA-T would be a good way to go. $3600 full installation is a little high. Unless the warranty is 1-5 years and the shop is legit, you should go a different route.

KA-T=TQ

I never have understood why someone would intentionally put a smaller engine in a car. Especially for the same or less money. You could easily turbo the current motor. And still be able to go to the local parts slinger and get parts for it.

if i were to put a lot of money into a 240, i'd rebuild the KA, and then turbo it. the SR's are really good, but they're also very expensive

sounds like a decent price as long as their work is clean and professional.

your ka could sell for probably about 300-400

Nice to see all of the Sr haters out in full force. They are just mad b/c its awalys sr this and sr that and the ka gets ignored. Sr is a good motor and the ka is a good motor. Just leave it at that.

Get what you want man not what people tell you what you should do. I got my sr for relaibality. It came with a turbo and was made for one. I didnt want to run into any probs with dumping all that cash into the motor just to have to replace it in a few years. I know that people have had kat that have run for a while i dont really care. Murphy's Law loves me.

IDK wtf you are smokin but hey pass it over here. 3600 for a redtop installed is a hell of a deal. Considering that most red tops are around 2650+ install and parts.

In what respect b/c i've had an sr for over 2 years going on 3 and the most expensive part i got was avcr. Do you have an sr and what are you getting these opinions off of??? If you have to peice your sr together like wire harness, ecu, ignitor chip then ya those parts are pricey. But not like you are making it seem. Alot and i mean alot of the sr parts can be gotten from your local parts dealer.

Your not looking around hard enough if you think that 3600 is a good price. I just called 5 shops nearby (Nor cal) asking about Redtop SR complete except for installation price ranges from $1500-2300. Now I got a great friend that will do swaps for $500-800. But seriously, you should do your engine swap yourself for many reasons like you will know that there is no bs that a shop might do, save money, mad props from us and people you know, and you wont be dependent on others (shops) when maintaining and such. But its his car so he decides what happens.

Dude you are in cali...you can throw a stone and prob hit 5 sr shops b4 the thing hits the ground. Hes out in new mexico. Seriously dont think that he as more than 3 or 4 shops to choose from in a days driving dsitance.

If he goes with a good shop that alot of people around his area have gone to and they recomend then he shouldnt ahve a problem. Not every one is up the the challange of taking out the ka and swaping in the sr its not that easy. Sure if you have 4 people all working with their own tools, an engine lift and and a few floor jacks then its alot easier. I had a shop put my engine in but that is the only time a shop has every touched my car, i still do all of the work my self. I just didnt have a few weeks to spare to work on the car and go to work.

If you can afford a shop to put it in and they are a well known established shop then go for it make your life alot easier.

Ya their customer service blows. People that i know have had mixed reviews from them. Blown motors, blown turbos, and getting them to send a replacement part can be difficult. Go with a reputable seller and you will have allot less headaches.

Im Nor Cal, different from So Cal - you can throw a stone and prob hit 5 sr shops b4 the thing hits the ground. And besides, I said his not looking hard enough, not that he has 3 or 4 shops to choose from in a days driving. So I dont know why you make this reply.....
