has anyone actually rebuilt an SR starter? I'm wondering if it work trying to fix it

yep, pretty easy, just get a solenoid off an sohc ka

I wish I had thought of that when mine went. I ended up hunting for a used on on ebay and payed big bucks. Might be a good candidate for a HowTo. No?

Actually, I just rebuilt mine... and successfully repaired it.

The main things I did were take it apart, use break cleaner to degrease all surfaces and thenSand down and clean commutator groovesreplace brushes with newRe grease all moving parts with white lithiumreassemble correctly and reinstall.

Really easy and cheap and it worked.Might do my own write up later.

ok i think i try to make how to for this as soon as i get my motor back doesnt look to terribly difficult

or a dohc ka works too. i used the one off of my old ka starter.

i got mine from autozone dohc or sohc doesn't matter as long as its a hitachi starter. But some dohc's came with a mitsubishi starter like mine did so its just easier to ask for the sohc one. Then you only gotta change the end. pretty easy
