SR starter squeels during startup.

Hello again Nico, I had just purchased a 95 s14 with a blacktop SR. The only major problem Im having is the starter. It makes a high pitch whine when I start the car, kind of the same noise you get when you try to start the car while its running.....So is this a starter problem, or could this be a flywheel problem? Anyone heard this before, and know whats the problem? If I get no replies I guess I will have to swap starters...Thanks for reading.

Yeah, first check your S connector, which is the little wire usually between the main terminal connectors on the Solinoid and make sure it's not loose.

If it is still starting then it could be the teeth on either the starter or the flywheel are rolled or stripped, so the starter teeth that are supposed to be turning the flywheel but they are just spinning. But you can remove the starter and turn the engine by hand and check all the teeth rather than pulling the trans and if all the teeth look ok then just replace the starter and solinoid and see if that works.

It does start, sometimes takes a couple times. So Thats the next plan of attack....Guess I will pull the starter tom. Thanks

The starters on the SR are notorious for this issue. When you replace it find a "mitsubishi" brand, seems to be less problems with those compared to the hitachi.
