Hey I am gonna check all my wiring tomorrow when I go back to the shop, but I'm pretty sure everything is in correctly. I am using the KA lower engine harness (starter, alternator, transmission, etc...) and I have 12v where the starter wire connects to the battery, but nothing at the starter itself. Could someone if possible take a picture of where the lower harness connects to the main harness? I have the 3 plugs going into the fuse box and I believe the wiring up front is correct, but I am losing all power somewhere between the starter and where it connects to the battery. The only 2 wires on the starter are the big bolt on plug and the little spade connector, but neither gets power when the car is off, on, or the key being turned (and yes my ignition wire going into the dash has 12v). And also my starter works because if I jump it, the gear pops out and spins.

Any suggestions/pictures would be appreciated.

Ok I've traced the problem further...

The black plug on the little red box that hooks up by the battery. It has a thick black wire that heads into the fuse box. It splits several times and ends up going to the alternator fuse, the ignition switch fuse, the horn fuse, and some other little 10A fuse (I forget right now). It also heads out to a plug which connects to the lower engine harness (starter, alternator, transmission). And then the last split goes into the large loom of wires heading over towards the fender well which is all wrapped up. These wires snake around the front of the car and eventually go dissapear near the power steering resevoir.

One of these wire is grounding out I believe and therefore grounding out all of the power. If I pull the alternator fuse or the ignition switch fuse, the power is restored to 12v, but of course all of the in car electronics loose power. I checked all of the fuses and they are all good. Any ideas what could be grounding out since doign the swap. The wiring up by the battery is fine and has no effect on anything b/c the same things happen whether they are connected or not. The in car wiring seems ok, and I get 12v at the some of the ecu 12+ wires and the orange ignition wire going up into the dash.

Sorry this is kind of confusing the way I explained it, but if anyone has any ideas of stuff to try/test or possible causes for the loss of power please let me know. If there is any specific information I can give which would help with diagnosis please let me know. I am gonna go play around with stuff some more.

Just in case my further discoveries help with any diagnosis... I re-attached the two plugs E8 and E10 by the battery and now with everything hooked up I still only have like .3v at the battery terminal, but if I pull the alternator fuse, it goes up to 7v and I can hear both the fuel pump and the water pump or oil pickup line (a loud whirring from the bottom/front of the engine).

Next time just re-use the lower KA harness, WAY easier.... all you have to do is swap the 2 plugs off the transmission (5th gear and reverse sensor) and it all plugs right in.

I am using the lower harness from my KA.

I think I was just hearing stuff cause the only noise was my fuel pump, and maybe something on the fuel rail not lower down on the engine.

I still can't get 12v with both the alternator and ign switch fuses plugged in, unless I plug them in a particular order, but if I try to turn the key the voltage drops back down to like .25v. I've tried every possible combo of things pluged-in/unplugged including the little harness for the gauge wiring that comes off the ecu cause I know that has the ignition wire. I have no clue anymore. Back to the shop some more tomorrow to drive myself even more insane.
