first things first, this engine has about 600 miles on it after a rebuild done by me. The issue came out of no-where shoppinng for christmas presents. My previous symptoms were as follows....after warming up I would have a hunting idle between 400 and 900 rpm, sometimes it was perfect. This engine ran perfectly while driving, no hesitation boosted fine and had more then enough power. The engine started sounding like this out of no where, I shut it off to go into the store (was running fine)...When I started it back up it sounded like a subie.Things I changed that day.... New BKR7E plugs gapped to 28 ran great untill the issue started.Things tested....that day I found a coil pack that looked to be running hot so I bought a new one, installed it, but the problem still persists, I cleaned my MAF.....I also tested my fuel injectors resistance (10.3-10.9 ohms)....if anyone else can think of anything else I can check I would appreciate it...I am checking the compression tomorrow if it isn't to cold (my car had 3ft of snow on it for a couple days) i am expecting 150 psi cold as it was trhe week before..

when my car sounded like a subaru it was after i melted piston #2. i would say do a compression test so we can narrow it down.

God I hope not! I was running 12 psi with appropriate fuel psi... my oil psi is still good too.l Looks like I got to go out to the cold today.

well it turned out to be that the wire that goes into my igniter backed out causing a no spark situation in the #1 cylinder. I reset the pin and everything is ok. I am going to use some epoxy on the back side of the pin so this doesn't happen again.

Me too.... Now I just have to figure out my hunting idle after warm up. I have a leak in my overflow hose so I am loseing a little coolant....probably causing my cts to read funny. I think I will replace both the hose and the sensor for safe measure.

so the clip that goes to the igniter chip backed out? What did you mean by resetting the pin?

One of the wires from the clip backed out, not the clip itself. I took a pick and pushed the wire back into position, completeing the circuit. I figured it was an ignitor problem when I tested all of my good coilpacks on all cylinders and none of them sparked on #1...leading me to inspect my ignitor wiring.

i think i got the same problem. i took my car for a lil ride since the snow almost melted. when i got to downtown the motor seemed like is was loosing power when starting off a red light, but not always. then when i got home it seemed like the motor was vibrating too much, you could off felt it sitting in the car, and the exhaust sounded not the usual. and when i would press a lil gas there would be a tiny lil bit of white smoke coming out. please help if you could. the motor has 1000 miles after a rebuilt. got oversized pistons in there just stock tho. stock turbo too and not tuned.

In your case I would inspect the coil pack wiring harness, and It's grounds, also visually check your coil packs for signs of overheating (white marks or coroded element). Check your plug gapping and compression across your cylinders. Check for spark, if your problem is intermittent check your cas wiring and internals. A damaged or dirty Crank angle sensor can cause issues. Also check for proper fuel pressure. These are a basic starting point ( at least where I would go first )
