I've done a lot of looking into intercoolers. I'm not too crazy about taking off my bumper to get it into place, and possible cutting my bumper or support, and moving my battery to the trunk. I know there are still ways around this if you are careful enough about it, but this just seemed even easier. So my real question is if a SMIC from any s13/14/15 will fit on an 95 240 with no other mods. The way it seems, I can just take out the lower resonator (gone anyways) and fit it into place. Then, I'd be able to use the same routing for the coldpipe that the intake is using right now, plus I wouldn't have to move the battery or do anymore cutting.

Will it fit? Will it cool sufficiently?

The sidemount will work for low boost. But you'll still need to remove the bumper cover to mount it and run the piping. My FMIC is fairly small, good for about 400WHP or so. I never had to cut anything. The piping runs under the car so no need to cut any holes or move the battery. You just need some mandrel bends from Summit and a pipe cutter. Then add some silicone couplings from Ebay and you're golden.

the holes and the mounting points in the body for the hot and cold pipes were different for s13, s14 and s15... end tanks will not line up properly. i have an s13, and while i waited on my intercooler to arrive i tried to fit a s14 sidemount on it (my brothers that came with his full s14 sr swap), but it didn't work, so i just plumbed it with no ic and didn't boost it up until i got my front mount.

he used that side mount for a while until he bought a greddy front mount... the side mount was horribly hot all the time. it will work for sure, but if you have to buy one you are better off spending the money on something that will efficiently reduce the charge air temperature... not just kind of cool it down. you'll lose tons of power witha hotter charge air, and you are in much greater risk of damaging the engine.

it depends on your budget, but you can definitely doa front mount without destroying your outside bumper... but a lot of time the actual bumper (the one that saves your *** if you crash) has to be cut or has to go.

intercoolers are pretty simple heat exchangers working on the same principles as your radiator, condensor, evaporator, or an oil cooler, etc... you don't have to buy the best on in the world for it to be efficient at cooling the charge air. i have an ebay one from sakura industries and my charge air is always perfectly cold. i hooked up pressure gauges to the hot side and i have a boost/vac gauge on the cold side, and they read exactly the same. it's a brand new intercooler. you can find one on ebay for cheap that will be brand new, and will have no leaks, and will function much better than a side mount. just get one of those and fab your own piping so you dont have to modify the car much to accept a monster front mount. you can get really slim long ones or whatever. there are millions to choose from. the fabrication will be about the same as trying to fit a s14 side mount on an s13, or the other way around.

You've made a good point, but the ease of plumbing is a point that I'm really about. If I get an s14 SMIC with the cold pipe, it'll already pretty much be going where it needs to, then just modify it with one turn to hook it up to the TB. Plus, I wouldn't have to take off the bumper or cut holes in anything, relocate battery. All that and even less plumbing.

You could always go with a cheap water injection setup. A DIY kit can be made for under 100 bucks. Water is free...or damn near anyway. That will work just as good as a sidemount. A slight bit of a hassle, but not to bad.

And a welder if you have one, if not, get one, they're awsome.

That'd be an if not, and because of lack of money, and ability to weld. On the plus side, a friend of mine that does half days at a community college, gets me free access to a lift, plasma torch, welder... everything.

I'd really rather not. Has anyone tried an s13 smic on an s14?

you can find much more efficient ones out there that will just be long and not too big... so you won't have to modify the front bumper... just check ebay out. they are cheap and then all the modifying you have to do is with the plumbing. no kidding for what people ask for a side mount ic it's not worth it at all. unless you already have this thing waiting spend your money on something else. anything will do just as good (or much better actually) of a job. water injection. small front mount. anything.
