Alright heres the problem. Car starts up fine, and runs decent. I have a stock SR redtop, with stock turbo ect... only upgrades on this one is catback and dp, and a cheap manual boost controller. I drive the car around, everything is all good, sometimes shows some slight hesiutation climbing thru the rpm's. Car blows no smoke while Im on it. When I come to a redlight or any stop and the car sits at idle, it just starts to pour out smoke! Embarrasing smoke signals that linger around till I take off! lol

I have another SR'd car that works perfectly fine, I could start swapping stuff over to see if everything works corectly, but I was hoping to get some clues so I wouldnt have to try every part swap! I did a compression, and it was a tad low to mt likings when I swapped it in, 135 on all 4, my good car runs 155 on all 4... So I was thinking that may be a problem, but I also thought it would continuisly blow smoke while driving if somehting was realy worng there too. Now the motor I swapped the intake manifold and trubo and exhaust mani from was completely shot, and I know it had some left over residue in it, but again, I figured burning leftovers would burn out while driving...? A freind think my turbo seals are bad, but I would think that would blow smoke all the time??? Why am I only smoking at idle???

Thanks,Brian

Sounds like a bad turbo. Turbos going out still smoke when your driving its just they are mixed with exhuast gas which makes it harder for you to see. My buddy can rev his car no smoke but when it comes back to idle BAM smoke comes out.

What color smoke is this? Gray? Black? Bluish?

If its grey and smells like oil Id say your Turbo is takening a **** on you. If its bluish and sweet then your HG is out but you would notice major power loss. Black would be fuel large amounts of fuel.

I agree with blown 240sx. I think your turbo seals are shot. When the seals are bad your turbo will smoke throughout the whole rpm range but will only be noticable at idle. Time for an upgrade

check your turbo elbow, just to see if there is an oil residue. If your seals are going bad you should notice a wet or sticky oil residue in the elbow and exhaust side of the turbo and tracking down into the downpipe. You also need to give a few more details on the color and thickness of the smoke. How long has it been since you had the install on this motor. If it has only been a couple of days then you should be safe to wait and see if it burns off, but you still need to check your turbo. Good Luck!!!

buring oil is usually very light bluish tinted white smokeburning coolant is usually very white smoketoo rich is usually black to grey.

anyways.

1) check your plugs for oil residue. If plugs good then your turbos gone2) if plugs are fouled with oil residue then you either have leaky valve stem seals or your rings are starting to go3) faulty valve stem seals are not likely but if they are bad they smoke alot at idle4) drop in a cap full of oil into your cylinder and see if that changes your compression. If so, your rings are bye bye.

Ok, First off, Thank you all very much for helping me out! I forgot to list what the smoke looked like, I should no better. But its the greyish kinda oil smelling smoke. And I thought it may just be left over residue burning off, but its starting to get worse, still only at idle, I just quit driving it till I find out whats up. I am just goin to take my good turbo off my other car and swap it out, after I recheck plugs and compression! Ill let you know what turns up or if I need some more help!

Thanks again everyone, and soryyr fro em sleppign!!Nah for real, I was in a hurry this morning and typed this up quick, my spelling aint to good when I try to be fast with it!
