My s14 sr doesnt seem to want to rev above 6k. I can hit above 7k in first gear, but once i go to 2nd gear and on, I dont seem to be able to rev above 6k. The car feels like its choking when it tries to go above 6k. Is the rev limiter kicking in too early? I am using the stock KA gauge cluster still. Could that be the problem?

Gauge cluster shouldn't matter. When I was using my ka tachometer I'd max it out at 7-7500 rpm for the heck of it in every gear. Don't do that anymore of course. Something is wrong, probably a clogged cat? ignition related?

When and how did it start? Did you make any mods to it before it start occuring? Its sounds possibly like ignition related. Maybe plugs? Or is it hiting 6k and stopping? If so its proly not the plugs. Any more details?

I got intake exhuast intercooler and a test pipe. I kept a silencer on for daily driving. Basically the car feels like its choking when i try to rev it past 6k. The rev needle bounces back and forth around that 6k range. This only happens pass 1st gear. 1st gear revs up to 7k+ just fine. It pulls really hard until i reach 6k. Feels like something is restricting it to pull any farther. Could it be my spark plugs? I have never changed the spark plugs.

Yeah check your plugs but also you could have a little boost leak. It shouldn't be to hard to figure out. Check you I.C. piping.

Happens to me also, its not the plugs for me, it's obviously electronic, I get Fuel cut at around 6000-6500 in 4th and 5th, it does suck... new ECU?...

Should not be boost leak because if it was, as soon as he hit boost his car should start bogging like fuel cut. 6k rpm is too high to be a boost leak.

Check your ignition system as well as your timing perhaps.

Even a small boost leak can cause fuel cut at high RPMs such as if your BOV was leaking under heavy load. Your ecu thinks there is a certain amount of air coming in and your ecu signals your injectors to use x amount of fuel but something in the ignition cycle, a sensor, maybe o2 is causing you to lean out.

The difference on my car with the silencer in the exhaust, vs with it removed was drastically different. With the silencer in, it didn't want to rev past 6500 or so. With the silencer out, it pulls strong to 7000RPM in 4th. In 5th, it cuts out at around 6500. At that point either the ignition coils are overloaded, or there is an ECU coded limitation.

Have you pulled your silencer out yet? Did that make a difference?

With regards to your plugs, make sure that they're in the right heat range, and gapped down. I ended up going with Bosch F5DTC plugs. They come with a .028 gap, and have a copper center electrode and deeper ceramic jacket for better heat absorption.
