ok small update i put the transmission back together now some pics

cleaned the back of the bellhousing for the RTV to have a smooth surface to adhere to
Image
Image

got a piece of 2x4 so i could stand the transmission up for easy bellhousing alignment
Image

got it all lined up and bolted on now installing the snap ring on the main bearing
Image

i temporarily put the cover back on but i need to head to nissan on monday and get a new front cover seal, mine looks ok but Nissan recommends not to reuse them and i will not risk it for a $4 seal.
Image

now this i did not realize there was a little ball under this spring and it had fallen out do not lose this!
Image

here she is all put back together
Image

small update that has nothing to do with the trans, my wireing specialties harness just came in and it looks amazing it will clean up my engine bay so much installing this harness plus my 20+ year old wires are not in the greatest condition.

Image

hey my Shaft Masters drive shaft came in today and man does it look good, they use Spicer joints.
here is a pic of my testing to see if the yolk fits properly and it does!
Image

also my Dakota Digital speed calibration unit, im going to use this box to get the ABS signal from my j30 diff to make my speedometer to work with the z33 transmission.
Image

i already had the Spec flywheel but i wasnt sure if i needed a new friction plate or not so i just ordered one it was $80 i would be kicking myself if i needed it and not ordered it but other then that im still waiting on more parts and i will try to pull my SR out of my s14 this weekend

my ACT Extreme 6 puck clutch came in last night.
Image

my replacement spec Flywheel friction plate came in today. now im just missing a few parts but they happen to be the most important ones

hey guys found this locally with the same color as my car! Kouki trunk+Wing
Image
Image

im Still waiting on parts Chasebays their 3 week long wait on back ordered parts is turning into 7 weeks now :( and Brett from Collins Performance told me my stuff would be shipped out this week so i decided to pull my engine out.

i didnt really document this part very thoroughly because its been done a million times! anywho here are some pics.

getting all set up with my tent in the morning you need this down here the Florida Sun can be killer.
Image

unplugged everything and pulled everything off she is ready to come out
Image

out and nasty dirty!
Image
Image

i noticed that one side of my turbo had lost the nut lock and both nuts and studs on one side had worked them self loose! awesome more stuff to order
Image

Spec Stage 2 Clutch DONE! this thing did not perform like advertised
Image
Image

i Also noticed my rear main is leaking so this would be a good time to replace it.
Image

here i am comparing the SR and Z33 transmission curiously the SR transmission is a bit longer.
Image

thats it for now untill more parts come in im stuck i really didnt think things would take this long

small update im selling my C230 Daily Driver because i just picked this up last night

Image

just a teaser cause she needs a wash
well nothing too major, i got my shift bracket back from Collins Performance but im still waiting on my adaptor plate and cross member. here are the two trannies lined up side by side, keep in mind the z33 transmission will sit another 3/8" further back because of the adaptor plate.
Image

i also bolted my turbo back up, replaced my rear main seal and i got in a box full of gaskets. im also still waiting on my chasebays powersteering kit, 3 weeks back order has turned into 8 weeks now. i may order some new inner and outer tie rod ends since they are so easy to change right now and mine look pretty shabby

ive also been having alot of fun driving around the S55 this thing is so smooth its rediculous and its got power to spare for a Daily
Image
Image

good update i just got in my Adaptor plate and crossmember!

Image

Image

as for transmission bolts you will need 6 M12x1.75 50mm long bolts and they all will need a washer of some kind because they are a hair too long.

i did have to mod my starter a bit to fit on the adaptor plate but ill talk about this tomorrow with pics, i unfortunately ran out of time today its super dark and i could not continue nor take good pics so tomorrow i will continue and make sure to take good daytime pics

ok i did quite a bit and i did run into some problems.

ok now the SR starter has this ring about 1/4" high on it and to fit on the adapter plate you need to grind down that ring flush but not all the way around just the part that will make contact with the adaptor plate

Image
Image

here i replaced the friction plate on my flywheel
Image

here is the adaptor plate with the fly wheel and clutch going on.
Image
Image
Image
Image

now here is where i ran into my first problem, im using the SR bearing carrier with the Z33 fork and z33 spring clip.
left is SR spring clip and right is z33
Image
Image
Image

it ll went together fine but when i mated the transmission to the engine i find that the fork has full movement and does not even reach the pressure plate. my solution is to buy the collins bearing carrier made for this swap but i had thought the SR one would work.

all bolted up
Image

i used 1/8" thick washers and the bolts are just slighly too long still so i will switch for 1/4" washers

i put her back in the engine bay to check drive shaft clearance and i noticed i had a much harder time putting the engine in with the bigger transmission but it did go in

Image

beefy! i do have to remove the factory rubber vibration absorber from the transmission it just makes it too tight
Image

anyway my driveshaft is about an inch too long i will have to contact shaft masters to see if they can help me out or if im just shafted.

so main problems i have to deal with now is that the drive shaft is too long and the throw out bearing carrier is too short ill try to update asap guys thanks for looking

anyway here are some pics of me marking how much i would need to cut out but i have not cut anything yet.

Image
Image

with the Center console in i was checking clearance and no you will not have to modify the center console only the shifter bezel.
Image

pulled my engine out again
Image

i installed the collins throw out bearing but it was the exact same size as the SR one and did not work either so i talked to Brett and he will be sending me the longer throwout bearing carrier from the 1UZ swap i really hope that works... this project has been delays after delays after delays its stressing me out all i want is a little boost lol

Post

sorry for the delay guys life and bills caught up with me but now i think im back on track

Collins did end up sending me the right throw out bearing carrier and shaftmasters did end up giving me a new shaft that fits perfect!

the engine goes in the same way a regular SR goes in except the space in the transmission tunnel is a hell of alot more tight so there isnt alot of room to maneuver.

got the engine in the car finally
Image

i had to cut the transmission tunnel a bit for the new shifter but it clears the center console just fine
Image

here it is with the shifter in place and my nismo shifter knob showing off the 6 speed sticker lol
Image

removed the valve cover to paint it and put new seals on it and found my head to be quite clean for an engine built in 1992
Image
i do change the oil mobile 1 every 3k miles

all it took was a little degreaser and a hose, no scrubbing at all to get my valve cover looking like this.
Image

Metallic Redfire Pearl
Image

all cured with clear coat on
Image

got the drive shaft and the exhaust back on.
Image

since the slave cylinder on the z33 transmission is on the exhaust side of the SR20 engine i routed the clutch line under the frame rain to where the factory steel brake line goes to avoid exhaust heat i also ended up wrapping my downpipe with heat wrap
Image

and just to make sure i wont be melting any rubber boots from running the 2 step i made a little heatshield from a piece of factory KA24 exhaust heat shielding.
Image

i always wondered why my SR always took a while to get warm, so i went to change my thermostat with a new one just because the engine was out and its cheap i found the car never had a thermostat just a skeleton of one lol!
Top is new bottom is the old skeleton that was in my car lol.
Image

new belts from Gates my old belts were all dry rotted
Image

found a perfect place on my strut tower for my Sard FPR, no modding needed the holes were threaded and perfectly spaced for the SARD bracket lol
Image

was testing the hot pipe to see if there was enough clearance with the intake and there is
Image

and finally these sensors have been lost with USPS for 31 days now and they just showered up today! now i have everything electronically to finish this!
Image

more to come, i need to buy some silicone couplers and tbolt clamps before i can tune but that should be soon enough

Woot woot! Thanks for all the thorough documentation! I definitely plan on doing this at some point in the future. 6spd trans FTW! What would you say might be a realistic budget to complete the CD0009 swap?

-2005 CD009 6-speed with 20kmiles - $400
-OEM 350z Slave cylinder - $47
-Steel braided clutch line - $40
-Shaft Masters Aluminum S14 with z33 transmission drive shaft - $387
-Collins Shifter service - $112
-Collins adapter plate for SR20 and crossmember for s14 - $545
-Dakota Digital converter box - $94.95
-Collins Throw out bearing carrier $120

thats $1745.95 not including the clutch and other odds and ends and oil its expensive but its the biggest bang for your buck transmission wise any thing else would be astronomically more expensive

That is much less than I thought it would be honestly. I think the biggest reason I thought it would be more is the last time I looked for CD009 transmissions, they were still selling for over $1000 on ebay back when I was still pipe-dreaming about VQ30DET swaps.
Can't wait to see it on the road. Burn out video or :ban: ... lol

for sure ill do a burn out video after the tune

im having an issue right now though, im trying to wire in my sensors i got the Map Sensor all wired up then i move on to the AIT use pin 29 for ground and pin 26 for signal ok simple i tapped the ground on pin 29 and then i see pin 26 on the ECU connector not being used at all on the Wireing specialties harness so i try to use one of the AEM supplied pins i crimped it and it will not go in the plug. i pulled one of the pins out from the wireing specialties harness and the the pin was different from the AEM and my OEM nissan pin. I called up Wireing specialties and they were nice enough to ship me a set of pins for free i just need to wait till it gets here i need it for my AIT and Boost controller to be wired in to the EMS

ok i have the engine harness all hooked up but im having a small issue. Does anyone know how to deal with AEM EMS? i was trying to upload the base calibration but it kept saying it cant cause the engine is running and says 80 rpm on the live data with the engine off, i had to unplug the cas for it to read 0 rpm and install the base calibration.

i have no idea if it will start or not my battery was at 10v for sitting so long so i have it hooked up to a battery tender charging it for the night.

got my gauges all wired in added the oil pressure gauge and triple gauge pod.
Image

i got everything hooked up on the car and its running now, extremely rich but its running lol i need to get my aem tuned. The z33 transmission chatters quite loud with a lightweight flywheel its something ive read about and found to be true but the transmission is actually super smooth i love it it changes how the car accelerates im not longer screwed at auto-x when im often on the rev limiter in 2nd or out of powerband in 3rd with the 5 speed now with the 6 speed i can just leave it in 3rd
Image

anyway i was complaining about the noise because i was driving around with the hole where the shifter comes up open so i decided to seal it right.
i used the old metal ring and bottom rubber from the original rubber boot and i trimmed it to fit.
Image

and then i covered it with some dynamat
Image

and i put the interior back together
