Greetings-I am going to be doing a swap in a few weeks, so i'm starting to compile everything I need for the swap. I had a few questions about the best items to replace before installing the engine, while I have it on a stand. Here's what i've got so far:

head gasket, water pump, tstat, fr. and rear main seals, exhaust mani gasket, plugs

Also, I plan on upgrading the turbo eventually, and I was wondering if you guys would recommend doing it while the engine is out. I've never removed a turbo assembly before, but i can imagine the bolts can be a nightmare to take out in some situations. Drilling and tapping is not my favorite thing to do, I'm sure you all agree. It's basically a money consideration, but if the overwhelming recommendation is to do it with the engine on a stand if possible, I'll spend the money now instead of later. If there's anything else you'd advise doing based on the convenience of having the motor on a stand, please chime in, thanks fellas-

btw, in case you didnt notice, i'm new to the forum and fyi, i'm a performance parts dealer (small time, starting out) and am very willing to be as competitive as i can price-wise, especially for fellow motorheads

Welcome to nico

Replacing the turbo is alot easier to do with the motor out of the car, but it can be done with it in too. I suggest just ordering a whole gasket replacement kit if you havent already, and get a metal head gasket instead of the one that comes with the OEM kit.

Let us know how it goes

Check the timing chain out for excessive movement. Also look into the complete oiling system. Make sure everything like the pick-up is clean, and the oil pump gear is not out of spec.

As stated, get a gasket set to simplify life.

Make sure you follow proper torque specs, aluminum is not forgiving.

It's a pain to do in the car, but honestly it's easier to get the engine in and running with a stock setup. This also allows your T25 to eat a bunch of start-up metal when you run the engine in. Once you get it running fine with the T25 you will know you have a good basis to work off of. Slapping mods on a motor and throwing it in not knowing if the basics work is a big nightmare to fix.

Just to let you know, we have an advertiser policy on NICO. Unless you are an advertiser there is no pushing of business on the site. I'm particularly nazi about this because I have been in the business for about 3 years now and understand how it works.

If you'd like to get setup with some advertising on the board just email [email protected] and he'll get you setup. It would be a good idea to get everything in order before you start branching out though.

Thanks- sorry about the advertising, just trying to fund the project The thought of 'start up metals' is kind of frightening, is this a common occurance? I guess it's not really worth the gamble though. I certainly wouldnt want to destroy a 2k turbo. Does that happen though? I've never come across someone in my online travels who has mentioned that happening.Nismofreak, those subframe bushing collars worked like a charm!! thanks

It wont destroy the turbo, but it can damage the bearings and ultimately lead to a shorter turbo life.
